InSIS at RAI Conference in May
Sophie Haines will co-convene a panel at the forthcoming Royal Anthropological Institute conference, to be held 27-29 May at the British Museum. The theme of the conference is Anthropology, Weather and Climate Change. Sophie's panel will be held on 28 May and is on 'Knowing the atmosphere: exploring conceptual and practical dimensions of weather and climate knowledge for environmental decision-making'. Sophie will also present a paper as part of the panel on her work undertaken in Belize as part of the OMPORS research project. Steve Rayner will act as a discussant, as well as chair of the keynote address and will participate in a plenary presentation of the American Anthropological Association.
Urban Governance and Its Discontents video now available
The Future of Cities Programme is happy to announce that video recordings from the panels and debates held as part of the Urban Governance and Its Discontents event (18-19 February) are now available for viewing online.
A cornerstone initiative of the Oxford Programme for the Future of Cities, this event proposed a new format for presenting and elaborating thinking on what urban governance does, when it succeeds and fails, and how it can be re-organised to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

BRIGAID
On 12-13 May, InSIS researcher Dr Rob Bellamy and Institute Director Prof Steve Rayner attended the kick-off meeting for the BRIGAID project (Bridging the Gap for Innovations in Disaster Resilience). Funded as part of the European Union Horizon 2020 programme, BRIGAID aims to provide structural and ongoing support for innovations in climate adaption by developing an innovative mix of methods and tools that should become a standard for climate adaption innovations. BRIGAID will be led by Delft University of Technology and brings together researchers from over 20 research organisations across the world.
BioProperty seminars
On May 11 Miguel Garcia-Sancho and Dmitriy Myelnikov (University of Edinburgh) presented work on 'The Many Pasts of Dolly', a project sponsored by the UK Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council (BBSRC) to explore the history of animal biotechnology in Edinburgh.
On May 25 Andrew Lakoff (University of Southern California) visited InSIS and presented his work on the ontology of emergency in the context of the West African ebola outbreak of 2014-2015.
Javier Lezaun recent activities
On May 19 Javier Lezaun participated in a final crit for students at the Bartlett School of Architecture. The unit's theme, organised by Izaskun Chinchilla and Carlos Jimenez, was 'Women and Architecture: from the egalitarian fight to the female brand strategy.'
On May 20 Javier attended the workshop Intellectual Property and the Politics of Knowledge, convened by Jose Bellido and Hyo Yoon Kang and held at the Institute for Advanced Legal Studies.
