Message from NBSMLT President, Greg Shaw 
WOW – what an impressive 2016 Medical Laboratory week!  
It is truly remarkable how much activity we saw at the local level and on social media such as Facebook and Twitter. From pictures of local events, to information sharing, to old school graduation pics – this week was a smashing success!  Thank you to all of you who stepped outside of your comfort zone and promoted the profession that we dearly love. Take every opportunity to educate your friends, family and colleagues about the importance of our vital service that we provide . I cannot begin to explain how proud I am to be associated with such a dedicated, energetic and professional group of people. Kudos to all laboratory professionals for an outstanding Medical Laboratory week!

Board Meeting Highlights-April
  • New MLA competencies for 2017 were released by CSMLS
  • New NBSMLT Lay Representative, Brian Manship appointed by the Lt Governor
  • 2 LABCON grants awarded (see below)
Other meetings...
  • The PP&R (Professional Practice & Regulation) Committee held their first meeting of 2016 in April. The PP&R committee reviewed its policy and reviewed credit evaluations.
  • The NBSMLT Executive Director, Paula Steeves, participated on the following Annual meetings in April:
    • CSMLS Council on Government & Public Relations to collaborate on national  issues 
    • CSMLS Lobby Day on Parliament Hill to meet with MPs and Ministers regarding MLT shortages, recruitment of MLTs to rural areas with loan forgiveness programs and support to sustain existing IEMLT Bridging Programs
    • Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professional Regulators to discuss national regulation issues.
    • CSMLS forum on laboratory simulation

WOW! Ce fut une semaine de laboratoire impressionnante! Il est vraiment remarquable combien d'activité nous avons vu au niveau local et sur les médias sociaux tels que Facebook et Twitter. Les photos d'événements locaux, le partage de l'information, les images des anciens diplômés  - cette semaine a été un grand succès! Merci à vous tous qui ont intervenu en dehors de votre zone de confort et de promouvoir la profession que nous aimons tendrement. Profitez de chaque occasion pour éduquer vos amis, votre famille et vos collègues à propos de l'importance de notre service vital que nous fournissons. Je ne peux pas commencer à expliquer comment je suis fier d'être associé à un tel groupe dévoué, énergique et professionnelle des personnes. Bravo à tous les professionnels de laboratoire pour une semaine de laboratoire médical exceptionnel!

Points forts: réunion du conseil -avril
  • Nouvelle version des compétences ALM 2017 lancé par SCSLM.
  • Nouveau représentant public, Brian Manship a été nommé par le lieutenant gouverneur
  • 2 bourses LABCON décerné ( voir plus bas)
Autres réunions...
  • Le comité de Pratique professionnelle et réglemenation (PPR) a eu leur première réunion de l'année en avril pour réviser leur politiques et les objectifs pour l'année.
  • La directrice générale de l'ATLMNB, Paula Steeves, a participé aux réunions suivantes de la part de l'ATLMNB:  
    • Conseil SCSLM sur le gouvernement et relations publique pour collaborer sur les sujets nationales
    •  Journée de plaidoyer au parlement pour rencontrer les membres du parlement pour discuter les pénuries de TLM, le support pour les programmes de transition pour les TLM formés à l'étranger
    • Alliance Canadienne des Réglementeurs de Professionnels de laboratoire médical pour des collaborations nationales bi-annuelle.
    • Forum SCSLM sur les laboratoires simulés.
