25 years ago this month, Gov Bangerter signed into law Senate Bill 21, creating the State Geographic Information Database, known fondly to many as the SGID. SB21 was one of the first instances of GIS being codified into state statue. In 1991, UGIC and NSGIC also held their first meetings, and ESRI released ArcView 1.0.

GIS and data sharing have come a long way since 1991, but the guiding principles are the same as they were 25 years ago. Be sure to get your limited edition commemorative SGID 25 Years sticker next time you see an AGRC staffer!

An informal work group with broad participation from city, county, regional and state government has produced voluntary recommendations for a tax year parcel GIS data product. The group's focus was on creating efficient access and proper documentation for those that put this important data resource to work in the areas of economic development, planning, resource management, and public safety. If all goes well, the tax year parcel GIS layer could begin to be populated this summer. Read more. 

The annual UGIC Conference was held May 9-13, 2016 in Bryce, Utah. Thank you to everyone who made the conference a huge success, there were over 200 conference attendees and over 60 breakout sessions. Looking forward to seeing everyone next year for the UGIC Conference in Park City!

UDOT and AGRC have planned 4 regional discussion sessions around the state during the first week in June to discuss new program requirements in the NG911, CAD, DOT, and other application areas. The statewide road centerline dataset is a highly valued dataset, and all road centerline data stewards are encouraged to attend.

Last week, a survey was sent to all Google imagery points of contact to gather information on uses, benefits, and requirements for high resolution aerial photography in Utah.
