Summer fun to teach kids where their food comes from
View this email in your browser
Dear Friend of Farms and Food,

School is almost out (hot diggity dog)!  In this edition of the Stew, we've got lots of fun things to do with the young ones in your life this summer.

At CFSA, we think that knowing where your food comes from and how it was grown is one of the most important things you can teach young children. And so, for this edition of the Stew, we’ve got a delicious recipe for Ensalada Mixta from C’est si Bon! that is a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen. You're going to love our list of good books to show children (and grandchildren!) where their food comes from, as well as the awesome activities to teach kids about food and farms from the fun folks at 4-H. Plus two inspiring stories about the farms on the Upstate Farm Tour, coming up June 18 & 19 from 1-6PM!

Make this summer delicious!,
Elizabeth Read, CFSA's Communications and Development Director

The Kaiser's of Kornerstone Farm

Kornerstone Farms

by Leah Joyner, CFSA’s Education Coordinator

Kornerstone Farms is founded on family. Jason and Chris Kaiser, along with their nine children, work together on just a few acres to raise pigs, chickens, dairy goats, grass-fed cattle, quail, honey bees, and heirloom vegetables. What began as a mission to eat better as a family turned into an adventure in farming, food, and community. Learn more about this amazing family farm in this blog post and then go visit them on the Upstate Farm Tour this month!

Ensalada Mixta Recipe from C’est si Bon!

by Dorette Snover, C’est si Bon! Chef Owner and CFSA Member

This Ensalada Mixta is inspired by Dorette's walking “the Way” in Spain. Her tasty version celebrates the flavors of early summer with a green garlic dressing over radishes, kohlrabi and carrots. It's a great way to teach kids how to chop veggies!
