Welcome to the SpringE

From the Headmistress

Dear Parents

It has been a week of concentration and application as many of the children finish their testing, and we can safely say they are now ready for a good rest at half term.

I hope half term will involve some good books to read, some trees to climb, knees to muddy, bikes to ride, lie-ins to be enjoyed and fun to be had by all.

Have a super half term.

Laura Brown

Skills Challenge
Last week Years Three and Four went to the Wye Valley on their residential trip. The children tested their spy skills as they carried out Alex Rider inspired activities. They had to collect toxic waste from a pit, practise their archery skills, navigate a maze and work on their teamwork and communication skills. The children approached each and every activity and task with enthusiasm and put a full 100% into each activity.

They did Springfield proud.

Lolly Licking Fun
This week, Year One have been designing and making their own healthy snack – fruit ice lollies, to enjoy in the lovely sunny weather. The children started off by looking at existing fruit ice lollies, tasting and selecting fruits and fruit juices for their lollies to finally make and eat them at the end of the week. The children really enjoyed making them and had lots of interesting thoughts about how they turned out.

On the Move
Year Two have been very busy this week finding out about transport invention and then using their creative skills to design and make their own moving vehicles. We had some very exciting designs.

We have also been looking at writing letters and the structure that they need. We thought it would be great fun to write to each other. Then we took a short trip to the post box to send them. Hopefully, they will arrive next week.

Ahoys and Aarrrs!!!
The morning was spent in the classroom preparing for the special day. The children started with Pirate Party free writing, then made their own identification pirate passports, assembled pirate hats adorned with jewels together with skull and crossbones stickers.  There was pirate themed colouring and symmetry activities and of course baking for our pirate picnic which included eyeballs (from marshmallows, icing and smarties/skittles), pirate biscuits and chocolate crispy cakes decorated with pirate faces.

The afternoon was where the real fun started at Forest School, the sun shone and everything was perfect. There was an amazing picnic where the centrepiece was a watermelon carved into the shape of a pirate ship thanks to Suzanne our wonderful cook but obviously no grog! When tummies were full the activities began: pin the patch on the pirate, limbo activities, walk the plank, find and order the gold coins numbered 1-12,  a very competitive tug of war and a treasure hunt where the children had to find gleaming gold coins, toy binoculars, swords and eye patches.  At the end of the day, a very tired collection of pirates were ready for a good night's sleep but probably not in a hammock.

Farm Fun
The Frogs had a fun filled morning at Churchfields Farm. We had a behind the scenes tour looking at how ice cream is made, we met the calves and visited the milking parlour. We finished our fun visit by playing on the tractors and cars and enjoyed a delicious homemade ice cream.

Rainbow Fun
This week we have had great fun exploring play dough with coloured sticks. We made rainbow cakes and caterpillars.

Forest Fun
After a fantastic first half term in Forest School club, the children showed superb team work and great exploration skills. We have created dens, made mud pies, help to build up the bug hotel and many more fun activities. A fantastic fun finish to Forest School.

Strawtastics

Springfield Parents Association kindly gave BSC some money to spend on toys.  One of the toys was Strawtastics. The children have really enjoyed playing with them.  Thank you to the SPA from all the children.

New Recruits
At Brownies this week, the Brownies made Jungle animal pencil pots. The pack welcomed six Year Two pupils who came for their taster evening.  Gio Gio, Chloe, Eva, Lydia, Isabelle and Hattiesburg had a great time.

Rounders
Year Four girls, accompanied by three Year Three girls travelled to The Elms for an Under 9A match. Lead by Captain Lucy Whiteley, Springfield won the toss and choose to field first. Some excellent bowling from Lola Tait and good decisions from Olivia Munro at backstop meant that The Elms were limited to score two Rounders. Into bat, Olivia and Millie Street started well and a total score of three was scored. The Elms batted well in the second innings and reached a total of six and a half rounders, but Springfield took their chances much more and totalled eight Rounders to gain their first victory of the season.
