HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!


SAWBO has big plans for this summer! Co-Directors Drs. Barry Pittendrigh and Julia Bello-Bravo will be traveling abroad and the rest of the SAWBO team will be working diligently in Illinois. As this summer will be busy, this will be the last newsletter until September 2016. We promise to come back with plenty of exciting news and a big announcement!

NEW ANIMATIONS IN OUR VIDEO LIBRARY


We have over 500 different animations in our Video Library with over 50 different topics and in more than 90 languages variants. Here are the latest releases:

ZIKA VIRUS IN SPANISH (ACCENT FROM USA)


Earlier this month we released our Zika virus animation. Here is the animation in Spanish with an accent from the USA. We would like to thank our collaborator, Monique Rivera for her excellent work on this translation!

ZIKA VIRUS IN FRENCH (ACCENT FROM FRANCE)


The World Health Organization (WHO) contacted us about the Zika virus animation and they put us in touch with Translators Without Borders (TWB). TWB translated the animation into French, and more languages are on the way.

HOW TO WASH YOUR HANDS IN JAPANESE (ACCENT FROM JAPAN)


Washing hands is the best way to prevent the spread of germs and diseases. This 2-D animation describes the importance and the best techniques of hand washing.

WE ARE WORKING ON IT


These are some of the projects we are working on that will be available soon in our Video Library.

SHARING KNOWLEDGE USING THE SAWBO DEPLOYER APP


This animation will show how the SAWBO Deployer App can travel with our collaborators to help spread knowledge to many people and communities across the globe.

LUNG CANCER SCREENING AND PREVENTION


In collaboration with University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), we are creating a lung cancer animation that talks about screening and prevention techniques.

HIP DYSPLASIA


Hip dysplasia is a problem from birth where the hip joint has not formed properly. Over time, children born with a dislocated hip will have a limp. If diagnosed early, this condition is very easily treated.

TECH2EMPOWER WORKSHOP IN CAMBODIA


SAWBO's Co-Director, Dr. Julia Bello-Bravo, recently attended the Tech2Empower workshop hosted by the Women's Alliance for Knowledge Echange (WAKE) in Cambodia.

EASILY CONSTRUCTED MOSQUITO TRAP


This mosquito trap created by Canadian researchers utilizes old car tires and has been shown to be effective through a recent field trial in Guatemala.

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY


May 31st is World No Tobacco Day. This year the World Health Organization is focusing on their Tobacco Free Initiative to help convey the health effects of smoking cigarettes. SAWBO hopes to release our Lung Cancer Screening animation soon to help in the effort to fight cigarette related health effects.
