Traceability 101 by Future of Fish
Traceability 101
Future of Fish, with the assistance of FishWise, Global Food Traceability Center (GFTC), and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), is shedding light on the confusing and ambiguous term of "traceability" with their Traceability 101 resources. The resources are:
Seafood Spotlight: Chinook Salmon 
Chinook Salmon
Estimated sustainability of Chinook salmon based on a combination of 2014 U.S. landings and total landings from 1999-2013 using 2016 Seafood Watch® ratings is broken down accordingly:
  • ~30% is "Best Choice (green)" from Alaska
  • ~50% is "Good Alternative (yellow)" from California, Oregon, and Washington (outside Puget Sound)
  • ~8% "Avoid (red)" from Puget Sound, Washington
  • ~12% unrated, mostly from British Columbia. 
Pontchartrain Blue Crab, Inc. - Slidell, Louisiana
Chinook Salmon
Since it was founded in 1996, the focus of Pontchartrain Blue Crab (PBC) has been to support local commercial fishermen, and to preserve the traditional way of life so unique to southeast Louisiana while observing sustainable fishing practices. Sold under the brand name ‘Pontchartrain Blues,’ PBC sources their crab meat entirely from fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico, including the Lousiana fishery, certified to the MSC standard in 2012.
