The essence of Global Responsibility - 2016 Q2 update (including Board nominations)
View this email in your browser
Dear Partners, Associates and friends of GRLI,

Since my first encounter with GRLI's work seven years ago I have been intrigued by the interplay of hope and vexation felt and held within the mission of the organization.

In discussions with our Partners and Associates, or when introducing GRLI to newcomers, I've noticed that people often feel inspired and empowered by our mission to catalyse global responsibility in leadership and practice worldwide, yet are simultaneously overwhelmed by the sublimity and immensity of its call.

During recent weeks the GRLI community's healthy appetite for continued and collaborative inquiry into the vision, mission and actions has again been demonstrated. Our Executive Committee, the group of Guardians, as well as informal discussions with the wider Partnership helped distill what is essential to GRLI's work and operations.

As always we invite and look forward to hearing the input and feedback from our Partners and Associates. We extracted for your convenience an online Google Doc containing the work in progress which will also inform the next iteration of Towards 2024 that was last issued in Q4 of 2014.

Our next board meeting takes place toward the end of June so your online comments in the document or email feedback by 17 June will be much appreciated.

I would also like to highlight 17 June as an important date connected to three other items:
  1. Board nominations: An open call is issued to current Partners for nominations or expressions of interest to serve on the GRLI Foundation Board. The deadline for applications is 17 June and more information can be obtained online or by contacting Liliana Petrella.

  2. Next vCollab on Responsible Leadership:  Following the success of our first vCollab held in April we're pleased to invite your participation in the next event on 17 June where we'll focus on "Responsible Leadership – what makes a great learning experience?". Our conversation starters include Julia Weber and Anna Beyer representing the student network oikos as well as Heidi Newton-King, Sustainability and Human Resources Director at Spier. Please RSVP online to receive the access code - participation is free of charge but space is limited.

  3. 2016 AGM RSVP and Hotel Rooms: We reserved hotel rooms for booking on a first come first serve basis for our 2016 AGM themed "Common Good, Common Ground". Please RSVP today if you are planning to attend so that we may finalise the cost estimates and planning for this event. Registration will open 17 June.

As reflected in the remainder of this update, there are many meaningful activities and opportunities underway to help progress towards global responsibility. By the same token much remains to be done and in that regard the continued support from our Strategic Partners, Partners, Associates, Alumni and friends of GRLI is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

John North

2016 AGM - Common Good, Common Ground - 16 to 21 October 2016
Limerick, Ireland

The programme includes our annual “All Gathering Momentum” meeting, several project workshops, a Collaboratory on Catalysing Responsible Leadership and a reflective learning journey focused on social and environmental responsibility.

The 2016 AGM explores ideas of the Common Good using the idea of place as a unifying and dividing concept. The theme of Common Good, Common Ground invites attendees to consider ideas of belonging and what it means to be excluded. We envisage three interlocking learning journeys to confront these ideas: Migrant, Nomad and Artefact, and plan to weave them together mainly through the medium of music.

The 2016 AGM forms the core of a week of learning and action that also includes a gathering of the PRME Champions initiative earlier that week and the CSEAR Ireland Conference.

vCollab - Defining Responsible Leadership

On 13th April 2016, GLRI hosted its first ever virtual collaboratory meeting based on the 50+20 Collaboratory Approach. The theme of the vCollab was â€œDefining responsible leadership”. Responsible Leadership has become more prevalent but the consistent understanding of what it is and how to develop it is yet to emerge.
