Program Coordinator - Artist Residency and Exhibition Program
Permanent Position

Serving as an important resource for the arts, education and business, The Living Arts Centre is a not-for-profit corporation with for profit elements. The Centre’s mission statement is ‘Arts for Life’. Featuring over 225,000 square feet of multiple performance venues, studio spaces and exhibition display areas its three theatres host a range of arts, cultural and entertainment events. The Centre’s seven craft/arts studios house professional Resident Artists and also feature educational classes for all ages. The meeting and conference rooms are utilized by community organizations and businesses for a variety of events and meetings. These are complemented by a restaurant and catering services. The Centre proudly serves as the performance outlet for many Mississauga arts organizations and community cultural groups.

The Centre is seeking a creative, flexible, and talented individual to coordinate the Resident Artist and Exhibitions program as part of the Centre’s Studio Arts, Education and Outreach department. Studio programming at the Centre includes professionally equipped glass, wood, textiles & jewellery, ceramic, sculpture, flameworking, photography, painting and drawing and dance studios in which it’s Resident Artists, School Workshops, Camps, Community Courses and Specialty programs operate. Studio Arts also provides an exhibition program in its Gallery and public spaces, which supports programming and gives opportunity to regional and emerging artists.

Duties
Reporting to the Director, Studio Arts, Education and Outreach this position will:

Coordinate and administer the Resident Artist Program; liase with post secondary institutions, community arts organizations, special interest groups and artists to maintain and develop Resident Artist participation, professional development and opportunities for exhibition; curate and coordinate an annual exhibition schedule within the gallery and the Centres public spaces; coordinate gallery openings and Art Battle events; interview, train and oversee gallery volunteers; prepare, monitor and operate within an approved annual budget; prepare copy for marketing materials working with the marketing department to promote programs; facilitate corporate commissions; maintain and build new partnerships; administer calls for submission; document and evaluate programs to ensure quality and safety standards are met; represent the Centre at special events; and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• University degree or College diploma in Visual Arts, Arts administration, Curatorial Studies, Arts Education or a related discipline
• Two-three years’ prior experience working in a public art gallery / museum or related cultural institution
• Experience working with artists and community organizations
• Experience administering, curating and installing exhibitions
• Experience with event planning and facilitation
• Familiar with studio environments and diversity of fine art and craft techniques
• In-depth knowledge of contemporary art practice
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational, time-management, reporting, and problem solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attuned to the human relations of working in a team environment
• Must be flexible and capable of multi-tasking
• Proficient in Word and Excel
• Experience working with volunteers is an asset
• First Aid, CPR and WHIMIS Training are an asset

This is a full time permanent position requiring the successful candidate to work some flexible days, weekends and holidays. Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Records Search, Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Programming Process

Proposals are judged on artistic merit and project viability, as well as in relation to White Water Gallery’s mandate and programming focus.

All submissions to the Annual Call are vetted by a Programming Committee composed of: the Director, 5 working artists or curators from the region, and 1 invited artist or curator from outside of North Bay. Based on this jury's decisions, and taking budgetary and scheduling constraints into consideration, the Director makes final decisions in selecting each exhibition.

Please allow approximately 3 months after the deadline for the White Water Gallery jury to consider submissions.

NOTE: Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis, and those received after the post-marked deadline will be held over until the next review.

MISSION

Established in 1974 and incorporated in 1977, the White Water Gallery has played a leading role in the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art and culture, both locally and nationally. As a not-for-profit Artist-Run Centre, the Gallery aims to facilitate a diverse range of artistic programming.

Exhibition Fees

The White Water Gallery is considered a Category 1 gallery and is classified as a small space by Canadian Artists Representation Copyright Collective (CARCC). We pay full artist fees in accordance with this designation and the CARCC guidelines. The current fee for a solo exhibition is $1,900, which does not include fees paid for additional activities that may be scheduled such as artist talks, panel discussions, or screenings. We also attempt to offset costs related to shipping, travel and accommodations, and encourage artists to apply for travel bursaries and/or exhibition assistance to cover any additional costs.

Call for Applications - Entrée

Entrée is inviting two artists to exhibit (duo-show) during the spring of 2017(TBA). Entrée offers each exhibiting artist a fee of 5 000 NOK, plus travel and accommodation.

Entrée covers installation costs, printing of signage, postcards, promotional material and transportation one way.

Entrée recently has an especially tall ceiling and enormous window confronting the public space right at the heart of the city of Bergen.

Call for Applications - Fabrikken
Copenhagen

Fabrikken is offering the opportunity for two artists from Copenhagen to exhibit in their 1000sqmr factory hall.

Selected artists will be given the option to exhibit apart or together in the space, to exhibit in a portion of the hall or in the entire hall, to install for a short or long period of time.
