Once More, with Heart!
Heart rate training can be a valuable training tool, but most people don't enjoy wearing the chest strap to collect data. Technology has finally caught up to customers' desires on this point, as Garmin is starting to integrate wrist-based heart rate monitoring into several of its models.
The Vivoactive model introduced last year provides data for pool swimming, biking, running, walking and even golf. The Bluetooth capability also allows you to get notifications from your phone and to upload your activity data wirelessly. This popular model now comes with the wrist-based heart rate monitoring at the same $249.99 price point.
The Forerunner 235 also incorporates this new technology and is your standard workhorse running GPS watch. The Forerunner 235 can also receive smart notifications and track your steps throughout the day and your sleep at night.
If the wrist heart rate monitoring is less important to you than scoring a deal, stop in one of our stores today and check out some of our older, basic Garmin models, offered at a discount for a limited time!

Hilo Couch to 5k Conquerors!
In March, the Hilo store kicked off their first Couch to 5K program. Over nine weeks, Cary and DJ coached a motivated, dedicated, and inspired group from run/walk intervals to running over three miles without breaks. This brought them to the start line of the Big Island Road Runners' Scholarship Run on May 15.
Our youngest participant, nine year-old Jade, was a great influence on her younger sister Seneca. On race morning, Seneca (who had never been to a group run) decided she didn't want to miss out on the 5K fun and joined her mom for the entire 3.1 mile race.
A memorable moment in the race was watching Russell carry the "Runners on Road" race signs back from both turnaround points. Talk about an extra workout!
Sue, Bruce, and Dana were all brand new to running and crossed the finish line of their first 5K with huge smiles. Bruce was traveling on the mainland the last week of the program, but he kept up with the miles on his own - even running his own 5K in 36 degree weather the same morning.
Huge congratulations to our entire group and a special mahalo to Hau'oli Pakele for making and passing out leis to all of our participants.
The entire group has returned to our group runs and are already influencing one another on which race to sign up for next. We love watching the running community grow here in Hilo and hope this group inspires you to join us on a run soon!
