Hi everyone
Some good news on the dust issue from VicRoads and EPA.

1) VicRoads Road Sweeping Update (Matt Walsh, Manager Assets and Deputy REMO)

Programmed sweeping during the last 4 months has been undertaken in the Brooklyn area as follows:

McDonald Rd                      Somerville Rd                    Market Rd
10/Mar/2016                           10/Mar/2016                        9/Mar/2016
6/Jan/2016                              21/Jan/2016                        25/Jan/2016
4/Nov/2015                              6/Nov/2015                          6/Nov/2015
31/Aug/2015                           26/Aug/2015                       31/Aug/2015

Removal of accumulated dirt on the outer separator of Old Geelong Road, at 2 locations, is programmed for completion by mid June 2016. These sites have been identified as the worst build up along the stretch of Old Geelong Rd.
Arterial roads in the Brooklyn area are regularly inspected and any significant dirt is removed. The surfacing of Jones and Bunting Rds has greatly reduced mud and airborne dust tracked and deposited onto adjacent roads.
Matt will update BCRG in July on the above works and also the next sweeping plans.

2) Brooklyn air quality update: effectiveness of road sealing - EPA report

Works to seal Jones and Bunting Roads in Brooklyn began in May 2015 and were completed in October 2015. These roads had previously been identified as major sources of particles smaller than 10 micrometers (PM10) in the local region and were sealed as part of ongoing efforts to reduce PM10 levels in Brooklyn.
This EPA report describes the benefits measured to date. Click here

BCRG Advertising and ongoing publicity and posters
We have produced a promotional poster for BCRG and put a few up in community centres in Yarraville and south of the freeway but it would be great to get them posted in more places. If you would like to put a poster up the document is available on the Brooklynip website.
  • Other ways you can help is to use this text and the links to the website and Facebook in your promotional material/social media.
