Our May events demonstrated successful clinical collaborations for patients

Conversations at one of the seven Oxford AHSN partner showcase eventsBy Dr Paul Durrands, Chief Operating Officer

A year ago the Oxford Academic Health Science Network held its annual general meeting at a central location. It was a useful way to meet some of our stakeholders but its impact was limited.

We knew we could reach more people so this year we decided to do things differently, teaming up with our partners to co-host a series of seven showcases during May 2016.

One of the aims was to highlight our review of 2015/16 which we called ‘A year in numbers’ – and the events themselves went on to generate some impressive statistics of their own: we reached more than five times as many people as attended last year’s single event – with 350+ coming through the doors. Describing the impact of the collaborative work on our three million population were:
  • 35 different presentations, tailored to the local partner
  • 20 partner contributors – from the NHS, academia and industry
Oxford AHSN Partner showcase 9 May 2016The showcases will have a lasting legacy. They generated a wealth of rich content including video and presentations – see links left and below for each event – which should convince you that collaborating with colleagues from across the region will deliver improvements in your practice and for your patients.

“What the AHSN has created is a real asset … and there is an impact well beyond the Oxford AHSN area,” Stuart Bell, Chief Executive, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

In this video Keith Errey of Isansys - one of the Oxford AHSN's industry partners - explains the value of collaborating with the network.

Get Physical
STAY CONNECTED WITH GET PHYSICAL

Following the successful launch event in December, the Get Physical campaign has now published its first newsletter. It aims to capture the best of the best from around the region to inspire, inform and support a community of professionals with an interest in growing participation in physical activity to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing for patients and staff.

GIVING PATIENTS INFORMATION TO IMPROVE HEALTH

A pilot project to get tailored health information into the hands of patients and the wider public is under way. It is a joint initiative between Newbury and District Clinical Commissioning Group, Healthwatch West Berkshire and the Oxford AHSN.

The pilot issue of the Local Health Bulletin focuses on three Oxford AHSN projects where patient awareness is essential in achieving health improvements: atrial fibrillation, early inflammatory arthritis and antibiotic prescribing to children.

You can give your views on the bulletin here.   Read more here >

LAST CALL TO HAVE YOUR SAY ON HOW WE'RE DOING

We're really grateful to the hundreds of people who have already completed the independent survey we have commissioned to canvas opinion on the network and its impact. You need to move fast if you've yet to give your views. The survey closes on Friday 10 June. You can complete it here.

The survey is being conducted on behalf of Oxford AHSN by ComRes, an independent research agency. This research has been directly commissioned by the Oxford AHSN Board and the results will inform its future strategy. All feedback will remain strictly anonymous and all data will be treated confidentially and stored securely. ComRes will not inform Oxford AHSN that you have taken part.
