INSPIRE Summit 
Held in Perth on the 6 & 7 April, PinG WA's INSPIRE Summit was a sell out success and a celebration event.
"Well done on such an incredible summit! Everyone I have spoken to was just buzzing from the experience – and were blown away by the speakers and content of the sessions."
INSPIRE was an advanced business skills summit for women of WA farm businesses.
The Summit was only open to growers, sponsors and speakers. As demand exceeded our expectations grower registrations grew from our original cap of 100 to the venue's maximum capacity of 130 (plus 30 speakers and sponsors).
Rabobank came on board as the Summit Partner. Planfarm, RSM and DAFWA were Summit Sponsors, whilst Telstra was an In-kind Sponsor. We received GRDC project funding and CBH Grass Roots fund sponsored the Sundowner.
The atmosphere was buzzing for the entire 2 days as participants relished the opportunity to learn from fellow growers, to question industry professionals and to network with like-minded women from across the state.
Standout sessions included the grower-lead concurrent sessions, an industry expertise panel session presenting on "key advice I wish my clients would take on board" and the all inspiring life coach Shannah Kennedy who brought the crowd back to realising the importance of taking time to 'breathe' and looking after self.
As the Summit progressed, overall themes emerged:
- Every business is different, but every business needs to know its structure, understand its numbers and be open to new ideas. We can all learn from other businesses.
- Communication is key to business and family success
- Planning business and personal goals is vital (& need to be communicated & documented)
- People are our greatest asset. Sharing management responsibilities, valuing everyone's position & personality in the business, investing in our human assets reaps rewards.
- Agriculture has a bright future. A lot of people are doing a great job running their business and we have passionate youth who are eager "agvocates". Growers should be proud of what they do and how they contribute to a global industry.
- Networking is free but extremely valuable. Talking to peers, asking questions, sharing your knowledge and experiences is something that comes back ten-fold. "help others, help yourself".
Following on from the evaluations feedback, PinG WA will be looking to run INSPIRE bi-annually.

Changing of the Chairs
Dandaragan grower Bronwyn Fox has recently stepped up and taken on the WA Chairperson role from Nicole Batten of Yuna.
Bronwyn has been on the WA Reference Group for 3 years. She farms with her husband's family, is a mum of 3, active community member, past West Midlands Group Executive Officer and also manages to fit in time for her own strategic and business planning consultancy.
A huge thankyou must go to Nicole. In her time as WA Chair she has guided PinG WA from a DAFWA based project into an independent not-for-profit organisation. Nicole's skills in maximising the potential of opportunities and creating collaborative partnerships has been a driving force in the success of PinG in recent years.
Ready for a new challenge, Nicole will become the national Chairperson at the upcoming AGM in August. It's going to be great to have two skilled and enthusiastic dynamos at the helm.
National PinG meet in Adelaide
Last month all PinG State Coordinators, State Chairs and the National Executive headed to Adelaide for Partners in Grain's annual national Face-to-Face meeting.
Erin Green (WA Coordinator) and Bronwyn Fox (WA Chair) attended on behalf of WA. Nicole Batten also travelled from WA, but attended as the National Vice-Chair (taking over as Chair in August).
Held over two days, the meeting presents the opportunity for states to learn from each other, share initiatives and strengthen the network as a national organisation.
Key learnings this year included:
- Key to PinG's success is that each state operates very independently but with the same core goals of "providing locally relevant professional development opportunities".
- A number of states are considering hosting an event similar to WA's INSPIRE Summit.
- Input from State Reference Group members and local growers is pivotal to developing valued training initiatives.
- As a not-for-profit organisation it is becoming increasingly difficult to access national funding for new and existing programs. The value or partnerships and collaboration cannot be underestimated, particularly when it comes to getting programs on the ground.
