Calling OCW Experts!

The OpenCourseWare Consortium, founded in 2006, has grown into an organization with over 200 institutional and affiliate members. It has played a pivotal role in propagating the mission of advancing formal and informal education through OpenCourseWare by actively collaborating with many reputable institutions worldwide. Since we are all for sharing knowledge with others, we would like to take a moment to identify the experts within the community and utilize their expertise.
If you believe that you have the expertise in one of the areas specified and are willing to spend a little time answering questions, please email us at feedback@ocwconsortium.org. We would like to hear from experts in areas such as general project management, intellectual property, technology (CMS, metadata, etc.) and instructional technology. All questions and inquiries in the mentioned areas will be directed to the experts, and we will then make the information open to the general public through the OCWC website.

Bits and Pieces

*We are happy to announce that Mary Lou Forward joined the team as the Executive Director of OCWC. She has been with SIT as the Academic Dean of African Studies and brings to the Consortium extensive experience in technology and education in multicultural environments.

*Terri Bays, who has served the Consortium for the past ten months as the Interim Executive Director will stay with us as the Special Projects Manager on a part time basis.

*University College Falmouth’s MA in Professional Writing was awarded £20k by the Higher Education Funding Council for England to release learning materials as Open Educational Resources.

*U.S. President Barack Obama announced a proposal to commit $50 million to OER in community colleges as a part of the American Graduation Initiative.

The New eduCommons

The release of final version of eduCommons 3.2.1 is scheduled for July 31. Installation could not get any easier, and the import/export function from other LMS and CMS makes it so much more versatile as a CMS for an OpenCourseWare project. RSS, Static HTML and multimedia support also make this release worth the wait. If you are interested in localization or testing of the new release, please contact caswell.tom@educommons.com. A webinar is scheduled for August 6th for those interested in the new release.

OCWC Webinar Series

Did you ever think that the OCWC Global Conference just does not satiate your desire to learn more about issues in OCW? Then participate in our webinar. The monthly webinars cover issues in technology, intellectual property, and best practices in OCW and the broader OER community. Each month, we have a session in which an expert presents on a topic, followed by a discussion with participants. The first webinar will be on the new eduCommons release, with Tom Caswell of OCWC. Go to http://www.ocwconsortium.org and look for the widget to register. Hope to see you there!
