Five PhD positions at the Faculty of Humanities

Applications are invited for five PhD fellowships at the Faculty of Humanities, tenable from 1 November 2016 (4 years, 0.8 FTE). Deadline for applications is 15 August 2016.

ASH General Meeting | Award Ceremony | Drinks

We hope you will join us at the ASH general meeting on Thursday 16 June (4-5 pm, PCH 1.05), followed by drinks and the announcement of the winners of the ASH Dissertation Award and the ASH Valorisation Award of 2015-16 (5-6 pm, PCH K.02).

ASH welcomes Vidi Laureate Danielle van den Heuvel

Dr Danielle van den Heuvel (Early Modern History) has been awarded a prestigious Vidi grant from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for research that she will carry out at the UvA.

Fred G. Meijer (Art History)

Fred G. Meijer defended his dissertation ‘Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606-1684)', supervised by Prof Eric Jan Sluijter.
3 June

Angela Jager (Art History)

Angela Jager defended her dissertation ‘Galey-schilders’ en ‘Dosijnwerck’. De productie, distributie en consumptie van goedkope historiestukken in zeventiende-eeuws Amsterdam, supervised by Prof Eric Jan Sluijter, Dr Marten Jan Bok en Dr Harm Nijboer.
She was also interviewed by the Volkskrant about her research.

Anna Sparreboom (History)

Angela Jager will defend her dissertation Venationes Africanae. Hunting Spectacles in Roman North Africa: Cultural Significance and Social Function, supervised by Prof Emily Hemelrijk, and Prof Onno van Nijs (RUG).

Tim Verlaan (History)

Tim Verlaan will defend his dissertation De toekomst van de Nederlandse binnenstad 1960-1978, supervised by Prof James Kennedy (UU), Prof Jan Hein Furnée (RU), and Dr Petra Brouwer.

Dorien Tamis (Art History)

Dorien Tamis will defend her dissertation Van twee handen geschildert: werkverdeling tussen schilders in de Nederlanden in de zestiende en zeventiende eeuw, supervised by Prof Erik Jan Sluijter. 

ASH Researchers in the Media

Irene Zwiep in Folia

Lecturers of UvA’s Bachelor programme in Hebrew Language and Culture were rated the best in the National Student questionnaire (Nationale Studenten Enquête). Irene Zwiep was interviewed on their behalf.

NPO Radio 1 interview with Niek Pas

Niek Pas was interviewed on the radio about the plans to make the French Labour market more flexible.
