Thanks to you...
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the 2016 True Blue Do: Night Visions such a great success!
Held at the beautiful Mason Fine Art gallery and event space, this year’s True Blue Do featured a wide variety of activities from start to finish, including:
- A Silent Auction featuring over 65 items and the “Almost” Live Auction offering 9 items
- An interactive “Paint-by-Numbers” mural, where guests had the opportunity to explore their inner artist and paint sections of a giant canvas for a small donation
- An exhibition of works from two exhibits that explore vision in a unique way: Billy Howard and Laurie Shock's Blind/Sight, Conversations with the Visually Inspired and Stephanie Eley's Invisible to Others
- Recognition of our True Blue Do honorary chairs, Mary Ann and Dick Cook, for their dedicated service to CVI
- The “Flip-for-a-Trip” raffle to win a pair of tickets from Southwest Airlines
- The Golden Ticket raffle to win the live auction item of the winner’s choosing (this year’s winner chose the Giant Panda Wild Encounter Experience at Zoo Atlanta!)
- A live auction featuring 10 fabulous items – including 6 bottles of Darioush fine wine (which sparked a bidding war), and a painting by French Impressionist Paul Vogler, “Paysage En Automme,” which was generously bequeathed to CVI by longtime friends and supporters Joe and Cathleen Blumberg
- The “Fund-a-Mission” segment, which featured remarks from CVI clients who reminded us of the many ways that CVI empowers those that we serve, inspiring those in attendance to give generously

BEGIN Pre-K Graduation
On Wednesday May 11, CVI held its annual BEGIN Pre-K Graduation, a celebration that honors and thanks the families and children of BEGIN. This year, five graduates celebrated their transition to the public school system. The ceremony began at 10:30 AM in the BEGIN classroom, and was attended by parents, siblings and other relatives. Dessert and punch were enjoyed by all following the exercises. The rising kindergartners were adorned in purple gowns, and received certificates and award necklaces. Congratulations to all of our BEGIN graduates and their families!

And the Award Goes to...
2016 Sarah Woolf Spirit Award Winner – McClain Hermes
Congratulations to Laurrie “McClain” Hermes, the recipient of the 2016 CVI Sarah Woolf Spirit Award. McClain, 15, is a participant in CVI’s STARS program and was nominated by the STARS staff.
The Sarah Woolf Spirit Award is presented annually to a CVI client who demonstrates a courageous spirit that inspires others. Created by CVI’s Board of Trustees, this award honors the memory of Sarah Woolf, who demonstrated exceptional courage and spirit in spite of grave health challenges. Sarah was the daughter of Bill and Donna Woolf. Bill, who served as CVI’s Senior Vice President, retired from CVI in 2014 after 24 years of service.
McClain exemplifies the phrase “Independence with Dignity” as a teenager who loves her independence, pursuing activities that she desires to experience in spite of her vision impairment. Click here to read more about McClain and her many accomplishments!
