Introducing our Newest Partner, Eli Lilly & Company

We are delighted to welcome a new member to the Tufts CTSI partnership, Eli Lilly and Company. Lilly, founded 140 years ago, makes medicines that help people live longer, healthier, more active lives. More than 8,000 employees are engaged in research and development, conducting clinical research in more than 55 countries. Like Tufts CTSI, Lilly is committed to improving health. We look forward to working with them to foster productive translational research collaborations.

NCATS Update: Trial Innovation Network

Curious about the future of clinical trials? The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), Tufts CTSI's funding agency, is forming a Trial Innovation Network to create a clinical trials “superhighway” – a system like the Internet that can accelerate the translation of novel interventions into evidence-based treatments. The goal is for the Network to be ready to launch large, multi-site clinical trials in 2017.

Key features of the Network will include a single IRB reliance model (SMART IRB model), master contracting, streamlined protocols, and a philosophy that operational design is as important as the scientific question. Other key themes for the Network are collaboration, teamwork, innovation, results-based strategic management and accountability.

The NCATS Trial Innovation Network Team is looking to Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) institutions to identify "vanguard" or "pilot" multi-site studies with sample sizes of 100-200 subjects. Ideally, these studies would be simple and involve relatively common diseases in order to focus on refining the infrastructure of the Network. Do you have an idea for a potential study?
