SPECtrum Newsletter - June 2016

Summer is back, gardens are growing, outdoor events are happening and... volunteers are needed! Yes, things are so active at SPEC that we need more hands on deck to continue doing what we do. On June 23 we launch the awaited SPEC Elders Circle, and that same evening, together with Kits House, we open the first Westside Community Food Market of the year. There is opportunity to get involved right away! But that is not all, we will be very active at Car Free Day (Did you know that Car Free Day was founded by SPEC back in the '90s?) on Sunday, June 19 at the Main Street location, and we need volunteers to help us at the SPEC booth and waste stations. Go Solar tours are starting soon and students will be celebrating at their School Gardens harvests parties next week. Enjoy this month's SPECtrum and connect with us if you can give a hand (more information on volunteer opportunities below).

Thank you!

Westside Community Food Market is back!

For the 6th year in a row, SPEC and Kits House have partnered to bring local and sustainably grown food to the community. Starts June 23, and runs every Thursday from 3 to 7PM at the corner of Vine and 7th Ave in Kitsilano. Come and enjoy good food and support your local farmers. Check out last year’s 3 minute video of the market.

Students, from kindergarten to grade 12, got into the garden to ...continue on SPEC blog
