This week we are featuring a true Spanish gem! Las Claras Ribera del Duero is made from 100% Tinto Fino, which is more commonly known as the noble Spanish grape Tempranillo.
Las Claras is a Cab-lovers red with a dark, brooding flavor profile featuring plum, blackberries, tobacco, vanilla and spice. The wine is deep and concentrated with loads of flavor and finish that sails on. There is a thread of acidity at the back of the palate that leaves you refreshed and a taut structure that could easily stand up to grilled red meat or a hearty stew.
We aren't the only ones who've found this wine to be fantastic, Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate rated the 2012 Las Claras at 90 Points and a best value! Mr. Parker had this to say about the wine:
"The 2012 Las Claras is a single vineyard Ribera del Duero aged eight months in new French oak. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a layered nose of black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, graphite and spice box. Rich and full-bodied with sweet, velvety tannins and a heady, layered finish, this seductive red should drink well for 5-7 years. -90 Points"
