A nail biting final for St David's in the Aitken Cup unfortunate loss for our boys in a penalty shoot out, but as Jeppe quoted in their tweet it could have gone either way.

From the desk of the Preparatory Headmaster

Dear Parents, Staff and Boys,
We stand on the eve of our Jubilee Week! This marks a significant moment in time, a moment in our history. An incredible amount of work has gone into the events of the coming week and we look forward to celebrating 75 years of Marist education at St David’s. The culmination of the week will be the Jubilee Mass on 12 June. We look forward to joining together with the entire St David’s community for this fitting celebration of all that has been, and optimistically look forward to the years that lie ahead.
Celebrations such as our Jubilee are important for a number of reasons. Firstly, they mark a moment in time to pause and reflect. We are called to think about the past, reflect on it, and draw inspiration for the future. Secondly, it is an opportunity to give thanks. We thank God for His care of, and blessings on our school over the past decades. Thirdly, we are reminded of the people in our lives. Those in the past and those in the present. We are reminded of the importance of inter-personal relationships and the value of ‘connectedness’ that we share as the St David’s family.
I wish all involved a blessed and memorable week.

President’s Award Portfolio

I was fortunate enough to have attended the 60th Anniversary celebration and Gold Award ceremony of the President’s Award for Youth Empowerment and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award on Sunday 22nd May 2016 at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Over thirty young people from around South Africa, from a variety of backgrounds, schools, children’s homes and even correctional centers received their Gold award from His Royal Highness, Earl of Wessex , Prince Edward,  and deputy minister Buti Manamela.
The testimonials given, by four Gold awardees, were inspiring.  These awardees shared their stories of how the President’s Award has impacted and shaped their lives, using the skills learnt from the Award to uplift their communities.
I personally feel that the President’s Award has helped me become a well rounded person; the adventurous journey had pushed me past my limits and had shown me that quitting was not an option. It was an eye opener to see how much I could endure and how much I can achieve if I really set my mind to a specific goal.
I would encourage every single St David’s boy that is above the age of fourteen to register and try for bronze, strive for silver and go for gold!
