Say Cheese! Looking for Photos of Our Clients and Families

Lanterman Regional Center has several projects in the works and we’re looking for recent pictures of Lanterman clients:

  • with their families
  • with their friends
  • at work
  • at home
  • at school, including graduation
  • out in the community, such as at a sporting event, the park, the beach, on vacation, etc.

If you have any photos that you’d like to share for possible use in these projects, including several publications and for online media, please e-mail them to frankdlanterman@gmail.com.

Also, the higher the photo resolution and the larger the file size (i.e. 1 MB, 2 MB) the better, but lower resolution and file size photos can be used for digital/online media.

Photo Consent
Following is the text from the Center’s photo consent release, and by sending the photos in via e-mail, you hereby give consent for the use of your or your family members’ likenesses in photographs/video recordings to Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center. The photographs/video recordings will be used for any/or all purposes related to publicity, promotion and education. And you hereby agree to hold harmless Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center and the photographer/video recording personnel for any liability that may arise from the use of these photographs/video recordings.

Additional Information
If you have any questions or would like more information please send an e-mail to frankdlanterman@gmail.com.

Please feel free to forward this message to other families who you think might be interested in submitting photos. We also welcome service providers to submit photos of their clients, however, we’d need to have a hard copy photo consent form filled out.

Regional Center Clients and Families Out and About in Their Communities - Working, Having Fun and Volunteering
For regional center clients and their families, being part of their communities means participating in every day events and activities, such as running in the marathon or volunteering and giving back. Check out the following photos and captions to see what some of them have been up to recently.
Lanterman client Rosario Snow (above) loves to run and so he set the goal for himself of running in the 2016 Los Angeles Marathon. With the support of his family and friends and encouragement of his service coordinator John Valencia, he trained towards his goal and completed the 2016 race in less than 7 hours.
Ten-year-old Lanterman client Aeon Casperes recently completed his first marathon with his parents. Casperes' mother mentioned to her service coordinator Marc Baca at the marathon that throughout the race people cheered for them and many parents who also had children with disabilities commented that this made them proud...and gave them inspiration. Both parents and Aeon proudly show off their medals, thrilled with their accomplishment.
One of Villa Esperanza Services' Adult Day Program (ADP) clients, Melinda Thomas, was selected by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Los Angeles County Commission for Older Adults to be recognized on Older Americans Recognition Day 2016. Here's what they had to say about Melinda in the event program and why she was selected for this recognition:

Melinda Thomas - from the City of Pasadena - serves her community as the President of the Participant Advocacy Board for the Villa Esperanza Services Adult Day Program. She attends rallies, writes letters, makes phone calls to legislators and other community leaders in an effort to increase funding for programs serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. Melinda is often the voice for other participants whose voices cannot be heard.

Melinda has assisted with completing volunteer projects at Villa Esperanza through volunteer work which provides assistance to at-risk youth in Southern California, as well as orphans in Kenya, Africa. Her volunteer efforts have enriched these individuals’ lives and have provided Melinda with the opportunity to use her knowledge, skills and passion in a productive and meaningful way.

FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM AN ARTICLE APPEARING ON AACC 21ST CENTURY CENTER WRITTEN BY TERI CETTINA ABOUT THE UNIQUELY ABLED PROJECT

Manufacturing Academy for Students with Autism

California’s Glendale Community College has created a computer numerical control certificate program specifically for students on the autism spectrum.

This June, California’s Glendale Community College (GCC) will begin offering a computer numerical control (CNC) technicians certificate program specifically for students on the autism spectrum. CNC technicians program machines to shape and cut materials for a variety of manufacturing industries.

The Uniquely Abled Project, a group made up of educators as well as representatives from nonprofit and for-profit organizations and state and local social service agencies, developed this targeted academic program more than two years ago. The idea germinated when Jan Swinton, GCC’s dean of workforce development, met aerospace industry representative Ivan Rosenberg when both served on a local economic development subcommittee. Rosenberg, who is the father of two children on the autism spectrum and the founder and executive director of Uniquely Abled, discussed the idea of a special training program with Swinton.
