NEXT MEETING

June 12, 2016

FIELD TRIP TO THE GETTY VILLA

Come join us at the Getty Villa as we visit the new exhibit Roman Mosaics Across the Empire.
The next meeting of the Ancient Coin Club of Los Angeles will take place Sunday June 12, 2016 at the Getty Villa Museum in Malibu where we will view the new exhibit Roman Mosaics Across the Empire.

Driving Directions - From Los Angeles take the I-10 [Santa Monica Freeway] west until it turns into Route 1 [Pacific Coast Highway, PCH]. Continue north on PCH about 5 miles. When you reach Sunset Blvd. [Gladstone’s Restaurant] the Villa is less than a mile away. You will go under a pedestrian overpass. The Villa entrance is next on your right. Coming from the north, head south on PCH. The Villa will be on your left shortly after passing Topanga Canyon Blvd. However, you cannot turn left into the Villa driveway, so pass the Villa entrance and continue south until you can safely turn around [at Sunset Blvd. for example]. Go north on PCH back to the Villa entrance which will be on your right.

Getty Gate - The Ancient Coin Club of Los Angeles has reservation # 3041572  Show your reservation number to the guard at the gate and proceed to park as directed. Parking is $15 so carpooling is encouraged. Remember where you have parked your car! Proceed up the steps to the Entry Pavilion. Then walk up the steps to the amphitheater level where we will assemble.

If you have any questions contact Roger Burry. His cell phone number is 818 519-9422.

LAST MEETING

The May 8, 2016 meeting was brought to order by ACCLA President Ken Friedman at 1:15 PM. Barry Rightman gave the Treasurer's Report.

Merrill Gibson gave an update on membership development and handed out Ask Me About ACCLA stickers. Denea Buckingham, circulated her draft ACCLA brochure.

In honor of Mother's Day, the May 8th meeting presentation featured Mythical Moms and Daughters with a special guest appearance by the Empress Faustina Senior (Lorie Ann Hambly)! Lorie Ann Hambly is director of Adventures In Edutainment, a nonprofit group dedicated to bringing history alive for all ages. She and her husband Dave Michaels appear regularly at the Getty Villa.

Lorie Ann gave a brilliant performance as Faustina Senior, a reprieve of the role she played at the Getty last year. Lorie Ann proved to be a treasure trove of information on the rights and duties of wealthy women in ancient Rome. Empress Faustina was followed by a presentation on Coins of Mothers in Greek Mythology by Merrill Gibson. Altogether, another great production by ACCLA Program Director Roger Burry!
