God's Unexpected Gifts

This is Jack at the front right of the photo above. Jack is a student at the Junior High School that the Baylor Religious Hour Choir spent a day at while they were here. From the moment we met this young man, he was the most excited and energetic of all the students on the whole campus. It took us a little while to figure out why, but once we discovered the reason - it all made sense. He was a Christian.

Imagine coming to know Christ, being baptized, loving Jesus and even growing in your faith because of a pastor who loved and discipled you, but having no friends to share your Christian life with because they all shared a completely different religious culture. This is Jack's story. And then all of a sudden - out of the blue, thirty Christians get dropped onto your campus and all of a sudden you are not an outsider anymore - Jack said - "I really thank God, we are like family".

Brian and I will be going back to encourage Jack from time to time. He has a lonely path to walk for now, but God has given him some great encouragement and perhaps he will grow in his ability to evangelize his classmates because of this experience. Please pray that Jack will know the love of Christ more deeply and be a bright light to his classmates and teachers at DongShi Junior High School - drawing many to know Christ.

A Time to Sow and a Time to Reap

I want to ask you to pray for three groups of people specifically that they will come to know Christ by faith.

First is our Sunday morning Outreach Bible Study group. This past week, we had our last session of our short term study this week. I am so thankful for the partnership we have in the Gospel with our Pastor, Paul Lu and his wife Faith.

Pastor Paul came to the class for a few minutes to share the Gospel in Chinese and ask the class to respond in faith to Christ's call to believe the Gospel. After class, we were able to visit with several of the people and discovered they are on the precipice of trusting in Christ - we are following up with them this week to encourage them and see what remains between them and trusting in Jesus. Blaze, Sophie, JJ & Dalina, Greg and his two sons. So many others. God knows them all.

Pictured Below - Two weeks ago, Michael Belch, one of the members of Taichung International Fellowship was able to help me teach the class! We are beginning to find ways for these great fellow expatriates to become involved in ministry here in the community and in our church!

Second, this past week, the OKBU team and our group were able to go and meet with a group of students who are here from mainland China for one semester. This is a rule imposed by the Chinese government. They will be returning to China in just a couple of weeks. This group was started by some of our fellow missionaries who went to the states these past few weeks to celebrate the marriage of one of their sons. We were able to fill in for them this week.

Pictured Below - During these two special days, we were able to have some really intense interactions with these very inquisitive students, including a very direct and clear Gospel presentation. It is likely we won't see them again, so pray that God will finish the work He started.

Third, we took a special trip this past week with four students from ChangHua University. We were able to spend two whole days sowing into their lives. Lynn, Ted, Ignatius and Candy. There were many intentional talks and opportunities to share the Gospel over these two days. For three of them, it was their first interaction with us. One of them was from my Thursday afternoon Bible study. We will be following up again with them in a few weeks to start the reaping process.

Fourth, right now, the OKBU team is up in the mountains of Taiwan spending time helping a rural school of about 50 elementary students for three days. I specifically recruited three of the students from the National Teacher's University to go along as their translators to get some focused time with them. Eragon, Jim and Sophie are there spending time surrounded by this special team. Every day, they are reading the Bible together and talking about what it means and also having lots of conversations about what following Jesus looks like.
