Shop Window Competition - The Queens 90th Birthday !
Although we've already seen celebrations in May, Saturday, June 11th is the official annual celebration of the Queen's birthday, Trooping the Colour, otherwise known as The Queen's Birthday Parade.
On Sunday, June 12, will see the climax of the Queen's birthday celebrations, The Mall in London will be transformed into a giant street party for The Patron's Lunch, with 10,000 guests eating a picnic lunch and being entertained by street performers and circus acts. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will take part in the event from a specially-built platform on the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace.
The event's organiser Peter Phillips, the Queen's grandson, is keen for the event to be replicated with street parties up and down the country and across the Commonwealth so check out what's happening in your local area, get the local paper aware of your window display and how it's being entered in a national competition being run by the British florist Association. (Marketing like this for your business is priceless!) your local community will love to hear about this!
Oh did I mention your window can win you an Ipad Mini too?

Florist have asked what is the Association's view on the forthcoming Referendun, so we've created an enlightening webpage dedicated to it... the content is taken from a paper written by the President of Florint who happens to be a British Florist with a shop in the UK. Mark Ward researched the topic discussing it with Industry experts including many European suppliers. It's well worth a read of this page written by a florist for florist, so take a look before making your decision on voting. CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE

Did you see 'The World Biggest Flower Market'?
Friday evening (27th May) saw BBC 2's programme explaining about the flower industry, it was a great programme that honestly explained many of the processes behind what gets flowers into our hands and businesses! As the Beeb wrote "It's an extraordinary story of incredible logistics - one in which science, technology and human ingenuity combine to meet the demands of a multibillion-pound industry built around something as romantic and ephemeral as a flower."

When Flowers Become A Dutch Master Painting!
Take a look at this larger-than-life art installation that stands 6.2 metres tall by 4.6 metres wide, it was a combined effort of almost 30 florists working over 2 days. It was commissioned to celebrate Funnyhoflowersdothat.co.uk’s support of the Dutch Flowers exhibition at the Gallery, we at the BFA were sworn to secrecy when approached about the project but at short notice (after the gallery signed off the project) we were pleased to get a team of volunteers together - some of our RHS Chelsea Young Florist of the year competitors were pleased to return to London and take on another floral experience that they're unlikely to ever forget!!
From 2nd until the 6th June this 35-square metre living painting floral masterpiece will be on display outside the National Gallery visible from almost anywhere in Trafalgar Square, it's a great promotion of flowers and florists, thank you Chanel - who organised this epic task for Funnyhoflowersdothat.co.uk’s part of The Flower Council of Holland.
It stops everyone in their tracks, the perfect photo opportunity that everyone was making great use of.
The floral masterpiece will be on display outside the National Gallery from Thursday 2nd until Monday 6th June, its a feat of nature as well as engineering:
- The structure weighs 1,815 kilograms
- It is made using 100 blocks of Oasis florist’s foam with 26,430 stems of 26 different varieties. 37 different colours were used to create depth and shading
- Over the course of the five days, the flowers will be replenished twice bringing the total number of blooms to 52,950
- The complete installation stands 8.2 metres from the ground; about same height as two average London double decker buses
