Please vote on amendments to our Chapter bylaws

2016 APA-IL Bylaw Amendment Ballot
The APA-IL Executive Committee has proposed the following amendments to the APA-IL Chapter Bylaws as it relates to the process for electing officers and we are asking the membership to vote on the proposed amendments.  Please review the proposed amendments to the Bylaws and participate in the voting at the end of this email message.

Greetings APA-IL Membership,
Over the past several years, there have been discussion at the American Planning Association (APA) to align each chapter’s leadership and election process.  Two years ago, we asked you to approve a bylaw change that aligned our elections with National APA's in a consolidated cycle.  You approved that change and we will be implementing this system with the election this fall.  

This year we are asking you to consider a second change to the way we elect officers.  The Chapter Presidents Council at National APA has asked that each chapter begin transition to a President-Elect/President/Past President model.  The Illinois Chapter board has agreed with this recommendation and has voted to place the change on this ballot.

DOWNLOAD THE PROPOSED BYLAW LANGUAGE

If the APA-IL membership votes to approve the amendment to the Bylaws, the following positions will be up for election in 2016 for terms beginning on January 1, 2017.

•    President Elect
•    Treasurer
•    Secretary

In order to transition to the new system, the newly elected President Elect would assume the vacant office of President for one year before beginning their formal two-year presidential term.  This situation is necessary to align the process for future years.  The offices of Treasurer and Secretary will continue to serve in two year terms while the President Elect will serve one year, then be automatically elevated to President for two years, and finally serve one year as Past President.  
 
The APA-IL board asks for your consideration on this matter before 6:00pm, Monday, July 18, 2016.
