Hi everyone. As you’ve probably noticed, the official Ultravox website has been down since mid-April. This is due to a major cock-up at the host, 123-reg, which you may have seen splashed all over the news - they had an error in an automatic cleaning-up script which deleted 60 servers’ worth of VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting. Unfortunately, Ultravox’s VPS was on one of the affected servers.
123-reg have finally confirmed that they CANNOT recover the data, which included about 15 years' worth of Forum posts and £3K worth of custom software for that and the Media Archive. 123-reg say that are not entertaining any compensation requests, and to sue them for compensation would of course cost more than I lost in the first place. And since the site is fan-run, with no financial support but my own, plus occasional kind donations from fans, I'm a bit stuck.

Why do we still need a site? you might ask. I can best answer that by quoting Live Nation: “The Ultravox website made the band’s reunion possible, by keeping the fanbase together for all of these yearsâ€.
Will the band ever tour again, or write another album? Who knows? The band is currently "parked", according to Billy. But we’ll be here, waiting and ready, if they do.
Not only that, but lifelong friendships have been made through EV. Partners have met through EV, then married, and even had kids. EV is a hub of friendship that has been going for 32 years as a fanzine, and 20 years as a website. It’s a family.
The good news is that I can restore the basic pages, but the heart of the site - the Forum and the Media Archive - are the problem. They’re run by expensive custom software. £3,000 expensive.
This is where I need your help.

In order to have the Media Archive software customised and installed, I need to raise at least £3,000 all over again. The Media Archive housed all the photos, fonts, logos, magazine and newspaper articles, EV fanzine issues, cover competition files, interviews - anything that you download was housed in the Media Archive. Luckily, I do at least have have backups of all the data and files.
On the Forum front, I *think* it may be possible to recover the majority of the old forum posts, at least up until late 2014, from downloads. I hope that it’s possible; there’s so much knowledge there, and so many posts from our friends who are no longer with us, that it would be unthinkable to not try. Andy Morris, fellow fan and techy, has kindly offered to help on that front - thanks Andy. It’s going to be a Herculean task…
Please do donate something, if you can - there are over 7,500 subscribers to this mailing list, and if only 20% of you donated the price of a coffee each, we’d be there. I remain hopeful, and leave it in your hands.
Thanks guys. Here’s the link again:
