Adoptee Citizenship June Day of Action!

The Adoptee Rights Campaign needs YOUR support to help pass the Adoptee Citizenship Act (ACA).  This is an open invitation for adoptees, adoptive parents, and all community members to win citizenship for all adoptees.

Representative Trent Franks (AZ) and Representative Adam Smith (WA) introduced the House companion bill H.R. 5454 last week!   This HUGE milestone means that both the Senate and House now have adoptee citizenship bills that need YOUR support.  

Let’s continue to make our voices heard and increase Congressional support by calling your Senators and Representatives on June 14th to express your support for the ACA.

PHONE SCRIPT:

Hi, my name is [YOUR FULL NAME], from [YOUR CITY & STATE] and I’m calling to express my strong support of the Adoptee Citizenship Act, which provides citizenship to individuals who were legally adopted to the United States but are left without citizenship due to a loophole in the current legislation.

FOR ADOPTEES: I was adopted in [YEAR OF ADOPTION] from [COUNTRY] but I am [with/without] citizenship. When I learned that [other adoptees were/ I was] not a U.S. citizen(s), I was extremely confused and concerned. How does this make sense? This is not right.

OPTIONAL: My [neighbor/colleague/friend/family member] is an adoptee and I could not image [him/her] being left without citizenship.

OPTIONAL: I am a part of a grassroots network of adoptees, adoptive parents, and allies in support of the effort to win citizenship for all adoptees regardless of when they were adopted. 

All intercountry adoptees should be US citizens.   As someone deeply concerned about this issue, I urge your office to support the Adoptee Citizenship Act now. Thank you for your time.
