BDI Buzz  |  June 2016 News!

Dear BDI Buzz Readers...

There are several exciting updates from BDI this month! First, we have launched our new website, www.bdiweb.org.  Our new site details information about our programs and the great work we are doing in our community – including our Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week 2016 event that is open for registration!

Second, we are welcoming a new member to the BDI Board of Directors, Penny Perez, ODOT’s DBE Program Manager. She brings strong experience supporting women and minority-owned small businesses and unique insights as a diversity practitioner to our board.

Finally, we have launched our annual sponsorship fundraising campaign! We have added a sponsorship opportunity for our small business partners that provides tickets to MED week as well as recognition in the MED week program.  You can find information about all our sponsorship levels at www.bdiweb.org/sponsorships.

Thank you for your support!

Tax-Reduction Tips for Small Business

Meanwhile, taking the right approach to taxes is a crucial factor that sometimes is overlooked.

We asked Anna Sergunina, a financial advisor and part of NerdWallet’s Ask an Advisor network, for some tips on how businesses can grow while keeping taxes low.

How Small Businesses Can Control Costs
in the Early Stages

Owning a small business is an all-out battle to find the right balance between generating revenue and limiting costs. That’s especially true in a business’s first year, when finding a sustainable customer base requires investment.

We asked Rita Cheng, a financial advisor who works with small businesses, about ways entrepreneurs can keep costs down in the early months. She is a member of NerdWallet’s Ask an Advisor network.
