Celebrations and Achievements

Summer is in full swing here at Hope for Tomorrow and that means the days are busy, busy, busy! The kids are working hard at school while missions groups and volunteers chip away at the busy summer schedule. Many things have already been accomplished this summer from countless preschool assessments to a fresh coat of paint on the new property. But there is still much more to be done.

Our summer began with many new faces at the Children's home. In the middle of May two volunteers from Kentucky came. These young women were greeted with many hugs and kisses. A third volunteer came from Missouri soon after. In addition to volunteers and missions groups, this summer we also received a new little girl into our home. Yolanda came to us in the beginning of June. All of the kids and caretakers immediately fell in love with this delicate little baby. Eleven month old Yolanda came from a difficult situation and has struggled with her health since arriving. With love and prayer she is doing much better. We are so excited to have her in our home!

June started out with a boom. Sierra, one of our beloved volunteers returned with her parents and two wonderful friends. This small group brought so much love to the kids in the short time they were here. They brought many games and gifts for each and every one of the children, as well as countless smiles. They also worked tirelessly at the new home with a few buckets of bright yellow paint. The team worked hard to remove all the old peeling paint and replace it with new. The group accomplished a lot and truly changed the look of the house for the better. But that was not all. While the group was in Guatemala we got to celebrate Carlos’ 12th Birthday! The Cars themed party featured an abundance of pizza and a very large piñata that all had a chance to crack. Everyone had a great time and Carlos was all smiles. The group said goodbye with gifts for each and every child.

University of Kentucky

With little break in between, the University of Kentucky flew in for their annual trip. A small group of five students came to assess the progress and needs of the children in the preschool. In the mornings the students worked one-on-one with the preschool teacher, Delmy, as well as the kids themselves to help improve the education that our school provides. Both the preschoolers, teachers, and the group learned more than we ever could have imagined. They also painted Amelia, Lidia, and Rosa’s room to match the growing girls’ personalities. The girls got to choose the colors: teal, yellow, and gray. Many of the kids were so excited to help, and it was a great treat for everyone involved. It looks amazing!

We had even more celebration while they were here as little Leticia had her 3rd Birthday. The kids were singing “¡Libre soy! ¡Libre soy!” (the Spanish translation of Let it go!) all day long for the Frozen themed party. Leticia had a blast eating cake and getting the first whack at the Elsa piñata. ¡Feliz Cumpleaños Leti!

Brookdale Presbyterian

At the very end of June Brookdale Presbyterian from St. Joseph, MO showed up. The group’s brief trip accomplished so much. In the six days that they were here they moved mountains (of dirt) and formed bonds with the kids that made their departure very hard for both sides. The group of fifteen worked on the new house for three days. They shoveled countless buckets of dirt, built temporary stairs while helping demolish the old ones, and helped pour some concrete Guatemalan style. Their hard work was a blessing to Hope for Tomorrow.
Most of the group spent the afternoons with the kids. And though the language barrier was hard to work through, both the kids and the team loved their time together. Once again we got to celebrate multiple birthdays while they were here. Two team members had their birthdays during their time in Guatemala and we celebrated our little Ashley’s second birthday! Happy Birthday everyone!

During the same week as Brookdale a group from Tennessee arrived to assist with a very large project! This group funded and helped install a brand new water tank at our new home. In their free time they also got to spend some time with the kids. Some of the kids even helped out with the task!
This group's work is so valuable to Hope for Tomorrow. We will thank them for the gift of water for years to come!

Get Involved

We want you to be personally involved in our children's lives and we hope this newsletter makes you feel like you are right here with us, but there are many ways to get involved from anywhere. You can come on a missions trip, sponsor a child, or attend one of our upcoming fundraisers!

Two major fundraising events are coming up in the next few months. The first is our 8th Annual Cinderella Evening at the beautiful CastlePost in Versailles, Kentucky on August 20th. We hope you can join us to spend an evening in this beautiful venue!

Dancing With The Stars is our second fundraiser. This event will occur on September 10th in Frankfort, Kentucky. This exciting night includes local celebrities and lots of fun.

We hope that you can attend these fun and memorable events. If not, we hope that you will be involved by praying for our ministry and all of the children that it supports.
