Mr Railston's Message...

We are fast approaching the end of the school year. There are lots of activities and events coming up, so please keep an eye on the school calendar.

On the 5th July we have our moving up day. So, at this point, I’d like to announce our teaching team for 2016-17…

Tiddlers Nursery will be led by Mrs Deborah Hockley
Reception will be Mrs Rachel Harding and Mrs Sarah Rumson.
Year 1 will be Mrs Amy Lewis
Year 2 will be Miss Aimie Trathen
Year 3 will be Mrs Rachel Rudd
Year 4 will be Mrs Joanne Railston and Mr Graham Hockley
Year 5 will be Mr Ben Hookes
Year 6 will be Mr Jeremy Guyler

Sadly, Mrs Bartlett will be leaving as her husband is relocating and she wants to go with him. Mrs Speed will be taking up a position at Pathfield School and following her career aspirations teaching SEND children. Mrs Newth is off to Canada for a year - and we aren’t jealous at all!

See below for a short introduction to our new teachers.

Mr Hockley will be working on developing our Sea School distinctiveness whilst having a shared responsibility for the Y4 class with Mrs Railston. Mrs Lewis is getting back to her love of teaching the younger children.

As our year is coming to a close I would like to invite parents to our last parent Voice of this academic year at 9.30am on the 12th July. I’m always very interested to know what you think has worked well and what hasn’t. That way we can continue to improve the education at CMPS for all the children and parents. You can ask questions and get factual information about how we decide our yearly focuses.

At the Parent Voice meeting I would like to discuss the ‘House system’. I know there has been talk about the way it has been integrated into school life and how it’s going to be used in the future. So, if your child is in school and you have a view to share on how the children’s learning will be enhanced by using ‘Houses’ please come along to the meeting. If you can’t come please feel free to email your view. I’m afraid I can’t take individual meetings on the subject.

As always I’m very pleased to listen to questions and I do my best to explain how Federation policy influences our direction as a school. Please don’t engage in sensationalism on social media as quite often it’s not based on fact. But yes, I’m a triathlete. We do engage in competition in school as well as cooperative games. Sports day is no less competitive now than in the past (although after last year's father's race I am seeking a further risk assessment!!) and I was 4 when the decision was taken to remove the swimming pool at CM. I am very open to parent's suggestions - there just have to be sound educational reasons for decisions based on the school's improvement plan.

I look forward to reading any views from parents with the aim of helping us broaden your children's learning.

Sports Day
There will be team games in the morning (starting around 9.30am) and competitive races in the afternoon (starting around 1.40pm).

There will also be a picnic lunch for children to eat on the field with their parents from the kitchen or you can bring your own picnic treats.
TIDDLERS OPEN MORNING
On Tuesday 5th July, Tiddlers Nursery will be having an Open Morning from 10.00am to 11.30am.  We would like to invite any parent who has a pre-school aged child to come and visit our setting with your child and meet our early practitioners and teacher.
Registration packs will be available for parents to take away on this day, although we encourage parents who wish for their child to start pre-school in September, to get in touch as soon as possible.

Welcome to Deb Hockley.

We would like to inform you that Sally Newth our Nursery Teacher is sadly leaving us as she and her family are relocating to Canada.  We will be very sad to see her go but wish her all the best in a new country!

Mrs Deborah Hockley has been appointed as a full time Nursery Teacher and will be starting with us in September. Mrs Hockley is joining us from Ilfracombe Infants where she has taught for a number of years.

Rachel Rudd will be teaching in Year 3 next year. She is just finishing her teacher training with NDTSA School Direct at Woolacombe. She's very excited to be starting her first teaching year at Combe Martin.
Aimie Trathen is currently working in Bideford. She is an experienced teacher and we are looking forward to her strengthening our Infant department, in Year 2.
Tag Rugby

Congratulations to our Tag Rugby Team who were chosen to represent CMPS in a tournament, run by Petroc and held at Barnstaple Football Club last week.

Barton Hall
A fabulous time was had by all the children who attended the Barton Hall Weekend Residential Trip.
Despite the weather not being brilliant, their spirit was not deterred and all participated in the various planned activities .
Many photos of the children have been taken including canoeing, orienteering, wall climbing, giant swing and lots more.  If you wish to access these photos please login to the school website,  click on Flickr and albums for Barton Hall.
This has been a tremendous and exciting experience for our children and an event which we offer our to our KS2 children each year.
Queen's Birthday
British Fish and Chips was the order for the day in celebration of the Queen's 90th Birthday.  With a sea of red, white and blue the children celebrated in style.
We would like to say a big thank you to our Kitchen Manager Julie Metcalfe-Boyen, Linda Lake for her fabulous displays, the PTFA helpers, School Council and staff.  A final thank you goes to Mrs Margaret Lawson and school staff who helped organised the celebration
.

Junior Life Skills
Year 6 attended the Junior Life Skills event on Monday 13th June.  This is an annual event run by the North Devon Council and teaches the children many facets of personal safety in a ‘hands –on’ and stimulating situation.
All the pupils had a great morning learning vital 'life skills'.
