Michigan's Children Lends Expertise to Detroit Panel on Two-Generation Strategies
On Friday, Ascend at the Aspen Institute will host a “2Gen in Detroit Roundtable” to highlight innovative two-generation programming and strategies that lead to educational success and economic security. Michigan’s Children’s Senior Policy Associate Mina Hong will be on an afternoon panel connecting the dots between two-gen opportunities and public policy strategies that can best support families to ensure children thrive while their parents move ahead. Stars Come Out on Heroes Night with Denise Ilitch Top Honoree
A business leader with bold vision and decades of experience advocating for children, Denise Ilitch described child advocacy as “the highest calling” at Michigan’s Children’s Heroes Night in Detroit on June 6. Along with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell of Michigan, Ilitch was recognized for her commitment to Michigan’s children with the organization’s highest honors. “(She is) one of the strongest, most tireless advocates for women and children that I know,” Dingell said while introducing her long-time friend.
Michigan’s Children’s Heroes Night celebrates individuals and organizations whose community involvement and contributions make a positive impact on the lives of children and families.

'Neutral Zone' Zeroes in on Engaging Youth
Michigan’s Children is committed to connecting the voices of young people with decision-makers. At a program level, youth voice and leadership are equally important. Our long-time partner, the Neutral Zone, a nationally recognized youth-driven organization, will host their summer Youth Engagement Institute on August 22-23 in Ann Arbor.
This two-day training prepares organizations to integrate youth-driven practices into programs and increases youth engagement to support development of 21st century skills. This workshop is active, engaging and focused on practical strategies and practices that can be directly applied in schools, libraries, community organizations or health centers.
