Geauga Matters -  June 2016

I would like to start out by sharing my heart and the fullness of joy I bring when saying “Thank You!”

The last few months have been truly amazing. NAMI Geauga County has been a gift to so many and also a special gift to me. When I am out in the community or receiving a call in my office, I am hearing stories from people and or families of how NAMI has saved their lives. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing when lay my head down at night - I am part of a bigger picture - helping others. NAMI Geauga is making change happen and even more bigger changes to come. My vision and prayer is for every household in our county to know what NAMI is and what NAMI stands for. Please continue to support us and our mission.

Bringing the battle home.  How can we continue this awesome movement of momentum? I look at the communities here in Geauga County and know we are truly blessed. The face of this organization needs to be right in the center, in the heart of it all - OUR COUNTY!  Please mark your calendar and help us to rise above anything else we have ever done before right here at home…. WALK with US!  On Sunday, September 25th @ 1pm NAMI Geauga will host its first “Miles for Mental Health WALK” #mi4mh. Watch your emails and set your calendars. We will be sending out registration information very soon. Speak Out, Stand Up, and Walk! Let’s WALK against the stigma that surrounds mental illness and do it right here at home in Chardon, Ohio.

Tragedy in Orlando.  The world we live in is so different than before. For us as adults it’s hard to understand or even process why these horrific tragedies happen but I always think of the children of today. I ask myself: How can they process it all this if we can’t even understand? How can children feel safe and secure? I believe we all must find the right way to communicate about these things to better help ourselves and our children. So many times you will hear mental illness related to such attacks. This both frustrates me and yet comforts me as well. Mental Illness and the stigma surrounding is our biggest challenge we face everyday. Unfortunately mental illness can be negatively looked upon which only fuels the stigma. The TRUTH IS…. Most people with a mental health diagnosis are living very healthy, happy productive lives.

I have attached two articles that may help you or someone you know.
