Let the Search Begin!

It is an exciting time at EvFree. This Sunday, Father’s Day, we will have the opportunity to affirm the two congregational candidates for the Pulpit Committee.

If affirmed, they will join the elected elders on the Pulpit Committee, and will also serve as members of the Senior Pastor Search Team. The Pulpit Committee is a smaller and constitutionally mandated group. The Search Team is a larger group of men and women who are appointed to help in the search process.

This Sunday, our church members will have the opportunity to affirm both of the following candidates: Amy Kling and Marianne Werschke. These two women will join the men of our Elder Board to form the Pulpit Committee...

Last Flight Home

As I think of my father, I remember long games of touch football in the street surrounded by all the neighbor kids, and my dad, though only 5’7”, ‘towering’ above us as the all-American quarterback. I think of basketball games with my hyper dad yelling battle cries to intimidate all of us kids so that he could drive his way home to the basket. I remember him as the coach of two Little League teams, my brother’s and mine. And the many hours leading Indian Guides and Sunday school classes. Endless hours in cars driving to and from events.

I remember my father at the end of the night reading devotionals to his kids just before prayer. Now, to be honest, my father was not the greatest of athletes by any means, nor the best of theologians, nor the greatest of communicators, and he certainly was not a good driver, but he was there.

By profession he was a doctor of dental surgery, a dentist, and in this he did excel. He had used dentistry to deliver him from the abject poverty in which he had been raised...

New College Pastor

This past February, our church participated in a survey called CHAT (Church Health Assessment Tool) where many of us gave feedback on overall church health. One piece of feedback we received was a desire to see plans for college ministry.

After listening and praying, we are excited to announce that one of our own, Ryan Lunde, has accepted the invitation to be our new College Pastor. Ryan has been an intern at EvFree for three years concentrating in college and young adults. During this time, he has grown so much as a leader, teacher, and shepherd. As a staff, we are proud to reap the results of giving ministry away.

Ryan has a burning vision for college students to live a life of kingdom significance. Please join me in welcoming and praying for our new college pastor, Ryan Lunde.

An Olympic Fullerton City Luncheon

Over the last few years, we’ve hosted several luncheons for the City of Fullerton employees as a way for our church to show love and appreciation to them. After all, these are the people that keep our city safe, looking good and running smoothly. We count it a privilege to host them on our campus and to show appreciation to them in this way.

This year, on June 9, the city employees enjoyed a tri-tip lunch, an Olympic-themed trivia game with prizes and a raffle to win gift cards to local Fullerton businesses. Eddie Park emceed the event, along with EvFree elder John Schafer, who thanked the employees and introduced Fullerton City Manager Joe Felz, who also said a few words. There were city employees in attendance from the Police, Fire, Maintenance, Library, City Hall and Parks & Rec departments. If you know or see a Fullerton City employee around town, be sure to thank them for their service!
