New IRS Scam

The IRS is warning taxpayers about the latest tax scam involving a nonexistent “Federal Student Tax.” An IRS impersonator will call students and demand payment for this nonexistent tax which usually involves threats of criminal prosecution if the student fails to immediately wire funds to the scammer. As a reminder, the IRS will never demand immediate payment over the phone or threaten to immediately bring in law enforcement.
