Campus Sexual Violence: Guidelines for a Comprehensive Response.
Sexual violence on university campuses is a prevalent issue across Canada. As many as one in four women will be sexually assaulted while obtaining post-secondary education. Victims/Survivors of sexual assault often know the perpetrator and the majority of campus sexual assaults happen in campus residences. Work is being done across the province to make sure that when a person experiences sexual violence on campus that they have a safe, inclusive, and informed place for the victim/survivor to disclose. These guidelines outline the importance of post-secondary institutions to have a comprehensive response to sexual violence in place. With the help of these guidelines we hope to see (and are seeing) Alberta’s post-secondary’s creating stand-alone policies to address the issue of sexual violence on their campuses.
AASAS is proud to be a partner of the Western Canada Sexual Assault Initiative along with Klinic Community Health and Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan (SASS) and the Ending Violence Association of BC (EVA BC). The Ending Violence Association of British Columbia (EVA BC) developed these guidelines for post-secondary institutions. We are happy to share these guidelines with you!
