Welcome to the SpringE

From the Headmistress

Dear Parents

The Summer Term is such a delightful term with lots of fun activities and children enjoying our outdoor spaces as well as all the usual events this half term. Houses are practising for 'Springfield’s Got Talent' this afternoon, which will doubtless be its usual combination of high energy and musical mayhem while our younger years are celebrating the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen’s (official) birthday with a red, white and blue day. Cake and bunting abound in true Springfield fashion.

We are already looking forward to Sports Day on Saturday 25 June, our SPA committee have planned lots of lovely stalls to accompany the races while Mrs Bennett is planning the parents’ race as well as those of the nursery with glee.

I hope you all have a fun weekend.

Laura Brown

Royal Celebration
To celebrate Our Majesty's 90th birthday, the children in the whole of Early Years had a 'Royal' red, white and blue day. We all enjoyed crown and necklace making, Royal spaghetti and rice and a wonderful street party picnic lunch. A great day was had by all.

Back In Time
This week, the children in Year Four travelled back in time once again to the Saxon era. We read a Saxon story and then used this to inspire us to make weavings and using natural dyes. We also made rune name tags. The Saxons used runes because it was easier to carve straight lines instead of the curved lines in our alphabet. We also made mud monsters and created stories to explain their appearance. We ate camping food and even cooked on the open fire. In the afternoon, the children decided to create mud recipes, build a ship and hunt down the many mini beasts we had seen throughout the warm morning. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and had a fantastic time.

First Aid Experts
Year One have been looking at St. Johns Ambulance, learning and writing about all of the things that they do to help people. We looked at some of the training they offer, some events that they support and thought about what they do to help in an emergency. We even used some of their online videos to practice some first aid on each other. The children are now proficient at bandaging.

Royal Delivery
The Brownies had a special delivery today from Buckingham Palace.  Her Majesty the Queen wrote to thank the Brownies for their birthday card they made and sent to her for her birthday.  The Brownies were all delighted to receive the letter and card.  Well done girls you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Brownie Secrets
In Brownies tonight, top secret painting was happening.  All will be revealed before the end of term.

On your marks, get set, go!
The Frogs have had a very busy week back.

We have enjoyed the sports day practice, with the glorious summer weather.

We have especially enjoyed exploring and creating mud potions.

We were extremely excited to see that our new fluffy feathered friends have hatched.

And They're Off
Sports Day preparations are well underway as the children in Early Years are having a great time learning new skills and how to use the individual lanes on the race track.

Sport
Springfield hosted The Elms School in Under Eleven A and B rounders matches this week.

The beautiful sunshine enabled the girls to play longer innings. This was very much welcomed as many games last half term were cancelled due to poor weather.  The A team batted well and fielded tightly and were leading after the first innings.  Rachel Pipe scored some impressive rounders and Samantha Ralph was excellent in her fielding at backstop. The Elms came back stronger in the second innings with some string hitting and went on to win the game. The B team batted similarly well and worked hard in the field to prevent the opposition from scoring. They lost the game following some fast fielding by The Elms. Well done to Harriet Alexander for being awarded Player of the match. Players were later treated to a picnic tea on the paddock with some tasty sandwiches and flapjacks.
