Nonprofit Guidance on Overtime Rules

The U.S. Labor Department announced overtime final regulations recently that will go into effect on December 1, 2016. Please educate yourself on this matter and make sure that you are in compliance. LNA Welcomes New Executive Directors

The Lakeshore Nonprofit Alliance would like to officially welcome Beth Larsen to her new role as Director of Pathways MI (where she begins on July 5th). We know she will be missed at the Grand Haven Community Foundation and are excited for continued impact on local nonprofit sector. The Lakeshore Nonprofit Alliance would also like to welcome Don Wilkinson as the new Executive Director of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. Don comes to Habitat with a proven track record in the corporate world and we are excited to apply his gifts and talents for the benefit of the local nonprofit sector. We also want to take this time to thank Jack Zandstra for his 8 years of dedicated service at the helm of Habitat! Please see the following Press Release for more information on Don's Hire.

 

Cultivating a Culture of Board Engagement in Fundraising

 
This workshop is intended for board members and leadership staff who are interested in learning how to reframe the culture in their organizations so that fundraising is no longer understood as a dreaded necessity of organizational existence but rather a powerful opportunity to advance the organization’s mission and impact. The Johnson Center is happy to host the Cultivating a Culture for Board Engagement for Fundraising Workshop for Lakeshore Area board members on behalf of the Lakeshore Nonprofit Alliance and the Community Foundation of Holland/Zeeland Area. This workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 26 (4:30 - 7:30pm) at the GVSU Meijer Campus in Holland.

This workshop is designed for nonprofits serving Ottawa County and is intended primarily for board members. We are capping registration at two representatives from each organization and ask that at least one be a representative of the board.
 

Communications Learning Circle

Darlene Kuipers, Director of Business Development for Tulip Time and Laura Dozeman from The Image Group will be presenting on how to use infographics as part of nonprofit communication strategy. Attendees will then have an opportunity to share their experience with using infographics along with a time for Q&A. Join us on Wednesday, July 20th at the Herrick District Library. 

Executive Director Learning Circle 

 
The first Executive Director Learning Circle kicked off in May with great success! This is a great space for leaders to come together and learn that the problems and challenges they face in running a nonprofit organization are not unique to them. Even better, Directors can learn about what others are doing to overcome those challenges. Future discussion topics for this group include diversified funding streams, millennials, staff retention, cross-sector partnerships, effective strategic planning, and diversity & inclusion. All ED's in our membership should be on an email group list so look for future information. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday July 26 (8 - 9:30am) at Compassionate Heart Ministries' new building in Zeeland!
