From the Headmaster
I am delighted that many of our children were able to complete their half term homework – many were keen to tell me this week that (despite it being a challenge) they were able to find time to ride their bikes, laugh until their tummy hurt, go outside and play and eat some ice cream! Well done, children.
I was invited to the Chamber of Commerce Awards evening last night as a representative from RGS, who had been shortlisted for an ‘Education and Business Partnership’ award. RGS Worcester won its second Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce Award in consecutive years and was recognised for the work done by the Careers department, as well as other departments, in engaging with local and regional businesses. This was excellent news and fully deserved.
As I look out of my office window, preparations for ‘Grangefest’ are underway and as the weather forecast promises to be better than anticipated, maybe a few more families will be able to join in with the festivities.
Finally, may I wish all the European teams well in the football tournament (which kicks off tonight) and I hope most of all that it proves to be a great advert for the ‘beautiful game’.
Her Majesty's 90th Birthday
Years Six were given a brief to paint a commemorative piece for Her Majesty's 90th Birthday using ideas from our research on Royal Worcester. It is thought that Worcester artists originally painted local fruits grown in the orchards of the county. These paintings created the style that all Worcester fruit painting was to follow, with full sized fruit, meticulously painted by hand to depict all the imperfections of the fruit and leaves realistically. We did our best to mix the acrylic paint and applied it with very fine brushes. We hope our 90th Birthday designs meet with the Queen's approval!

THE JOURNEY
The journey took a long time. I was very excited. Everyone was excited really. We all played card games and sang as well and we all fell asleep.
THE ARRIVAL
First we met the camp leader called Katie. She told us that her uncle was Bear Grylls! We took our bags off the coach and we had a mile walk to camp. We saw a lot of things and mud!
CAMP
When we got to camp, we sat in this thing called a yurt and in the middle there was a fire and the whole three days we stayed there, the fire never went out.
STAFF
The staff/tribe leaders and cook were called Amelia, Pierce, Andy, Meghan and Paulina. They were amazing.
FOOD
Tuesday lunchtime we had lamb kebabs. Tuesday dinner we had spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread cooked in the fire.
Wednesday breakfast, we had English breakfast and Wednesday lunch we had pizza, made in wood fired pizza ovens. Wednesday dinner we had salmon which was parnassed (which means removing the fish skeleton & guts!). For breakfast on Thursday, we had pancakes and at lunch we had wraps. As you can see we were well fed!
ACTIVITIES
We took part in a range of activities including trap making, first aid, shelter building (some of us slept in these over night) and knife skills.
We had an amazing time and wished we could have stayed longer.
