Victoria Atkins MP with Lincolnshire Standard Bearers
I have enjoyed another busy month in Louth & Horncastle, as well as in Westminster, from meeting the Lincolnshire Standard Bearers on the Terrace of the House of Commons (above), to visiting RAF Coningsby.

I welcomed the Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, to Banovallum School and Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School to see how well they are working together in partnership under the Horncastle Umbrella Trust.

These schools formed the first partnership in the country between a selective grammar school and a secondary modern school.

It was evident from the visit that the partnership is broadening the horizons of students at both schools.

I was proud to introduce our students to the Secretary of State and I look forward to continuing to work closely with both schools in the coming years.
Victoria Atkins MP BBC Questions
Work in Westminster has included standing up for local newspapers and their websites in a debate on the new BBC Charter, which you can watch in the video above.
I have also continued with my work on the Home Affairs Select Committee and appeared on BBC Look North to discuss the 21 new bills unveiled in the Queen’s Speech, ranging from the broadband Universal Service Obligation to the British Bill of Rights.

This month saw the inaugural Flood Forum in the constituency which I hosted to discuss the concerns that local residents often raise with me about inland flooding.

I invited experts from a range of organisations involved in flood alleviation, as well district and county councillors, to attend this public meeting in order to explain the progress that they have made and address the concerns of communities across the constituency.

I was very pleased that the event was well-attended and that organisations have committed to taking proper account of the issues raised in responding to planning applications – comments which were met with applause from the audience.

I will hold another Flood Forum later in the year to discuss coastal flooding.  As with this meeting, you will be very welcome to attend and I will provide you with details nearer the time.
Victoria Atkins at RAF Coningsby
I was privileged to visit RAF Coningsby to support the vital work of the pilots, engineers and ground staff in keeping our country safe - and their families' commitment as well.

I sat in the cockpit of a Typhoon to see for myself the many demands on pilots in the air.

The tour around the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight centre was fascinating, and it was humbling to hear the inspiring stories of pilots’ bravery in these magnificent aircraft.
There has also been some excellent news for Mablethorpe, which will receive £50,000 for the Beach Hut Revival Project as part of the second phase of the Coastal Revival Fund.

I am campaigning to improve the investment in our coastal towns and this is an important step in supporting the area.

With funding three times oversubscribed, it is particularly impressive that this bid was successful.
I recently raised the Chamber of the House of Commons the Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair that I am hosting on 9th September in Louth.

If you know of a business or job-seeker who would be interested in attending, or you would like more information about this, please fill in my contact form via the link below.

Over the next few weeks I am looking forward to opening Horncastle's Summer Fete to celebrate HM the Queen's 90th Birthday, as well as visiting Cordeaux Academy and the Lincolnshire Show to support our local farmers.
