Orange County Task Force on Hoarding

The Orange County Task Force on Hoarding is affiliated with the Mental Health Association of Orange County. It is a volunteer advisory group that meets monthly to review residential hoarding situations that affect the health and safety of individuals. The Task Force does not provide direct services for hoarding behavior, but is comprised of representatives of agencies and programs that are often able to help. Service providers who encounter hoarding situations are encouraged to bring challenging cases to the monthly Task Force meeting for confidential review with the goal of identifying resources and implementing strategies that may bring about a positive outcome for all involved.

Woman implicated in hoarding of cats, dogs in West New York claims she will be cleared
New York - One of three women charged with the severe neglect of 86 cats and dogs in an apartment told a judge on Tuesday that she had tried to save the animals and ultimately she would be cleared of any wrongdoing. “When I have my attorney, I’m going to give my proofs,” Jenny Guevara said through a Spanish interpreter. “All my animals were vaccinated, all my animals were fed. All I wanted to do was help the animals.” Guevara, 43, Eveline Bernacet, 66, and Alexandria Torres, 20, appeared in West New York Municipal Court on 86 animal cruelty summonses for failing to provide the pets with proper food, water and shelter.

Malloy Signs Hoarding Task Force Bill
Virginia - Efforts to establish a task force on hoarding fell short last year but will finally get off the ground in 2016. Gov. Malloy on Tuesday signed legislation setting up a 23-member panel to look at the issue, which is increasingly viewed as a serious public health and safety hazard…The task force will examine current approaches used by public agencies to address hoarding, identify barriers to intervening and assisting people who compulsively hoard and create a framework to coordinate the efforts among state and local agencies to address the public safety and health issues associated with hoarding. The task force will report back to the legislature by January 1. At least 75 jurisdictions have established hoarding task forces since 1989, when Fairfax County, Va., set up what is believed to be the nation's first such panel.
