Junior Summer Camps
Reminder that Junior Summer Camps are starting Monday, July 4. Week 1 is almost full... Very exciting! Camps will run for 6 weeks throughout the summer, Monday-Friday, 9AM-4PM.
In order to support this program, as well as provide a new rowing experience, the club has ordered 2 "Oarboards". These are scheduled to arrive next week, and will be available for all members to use. They are not necessarily built for speed, but they are lots of fun! And a great way for play while learning the basics of rowing, without the concerns of damaging race-quality equipment.
Support for the Junior Development Summer Camp Program is provided by Rowing Canada Aviron and Sport Nova Scotia.

Equipment Update
The Equipment Committee (Joe, Rick, Sue, and Tracy) have been busy... but not too busy... thanks to the efforts of our members to prevent and report damages. Recent projects include replacement of the steering mechanism of the Moe Cody 8+, minor repairs to foot stretchers in several boats.
A few important notes to help keep our equipment in excellent shape over the summer:
GENERAL
1) For those riding their bicycles to the club, a rack is provided for storage outside of the boathouse facing the beach. Please keep bicycles out of the boathouse.
2) All water bottles being brought with you in the boats should have a soft cover on them (e.g a sock) to prevent sliding back and forth. Sliding bottles wears down the finish on the inside of the hull, and breaks down the support under the deck.
3) When stepping into a boat, always place your foot on the area indicated on the deck by the slip-free tape. There is support under here for your weight. If you step off this area there is a high risk of breaking or cracking the deck.
4) Always close the pins on the oarlocks before putting the boat back in the boathouse. This prevents loose pins from getting bent.
5) Clean the slides and wipe down the hulls every time you come off the water. Rags and towels are provided in a milk crate between Doors 2 and 3.
FOOTSTRETCHERS
6) When adjusting the footstretcher, loosen the wing nuts, lift the entire assembly up so that the foot stretcher is above the notched channels, then move forward or backward. Pushing forward or backward on the shoes if they are still lodged in the notches will damage the notched channels the shoes sit in.
7) Avoid "banging" your feet to see if they are in place. Sudden movements can damage the boat. A couple of good strokes should let you know if the footstretcher is set in place.
8) Ensure that all three contact points for the foot stretcher are secure before you begin rowing (i.e. upper left, upper right, and bottom centre). Adjust either forward / backward, or the footstretcher angle until all three points are secure.
ERGS
9) At the end of your warm-up or workout, return the handle to the top of the machine. Do not leave it hooked in the holder as this affects the tension over time.
10) Clean the ergs and oar handles with rags and only the prepared cleaner provided in spray bottles. The cleaner is pre-mixed in the large jug located in the corner closet. This cleaner is the correct concentration and chemical mix for these machines and should be the only product used.
REMINDER: Always report any equipment damage to your Coach, either damage you find or have caused. We get it - accidents happen. Reporting damage promptly helps minimize the impact of the accident on our programs, and helps the club identify opportunities to reduce the frequency of accidents.
