City honored with distinguished budget presentation award

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the City of Parkville received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the city’s 2016 annual budget. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.

In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award a budget document must rate proficient in all four categories, as well as rate proficient in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories. This is the first year that the City of Parkville achieved this award.

Only 29 municipalities statewide received the award in 2015, putting Parkville among the top three percent of its peers for excellence in municipal budgeting. GFOA Technical Services Director Stephen J. Gauthier states that, “Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. Parks Master Plan concepts to be on display during July 4th celebration in Pocket Park

The City of Parkville invites the community to visit Pocket Park in downtown Parkville during the Fourth of July celebration to view and share thoughts on two draft concepts as part of the planning process for the Parkville Parks Master Plan Update. The two draft concepts will be on display in Pocket Park on Monday, July 4 following the parade (noon-12:30 p.m.) until 8 p.m., weather permitting.

Platte Landing Park Dog Park amenities donated by Girl Scout Troop 591

Girl Scout Troop No. 591 presented a volunteer proposal to the Parkville Community Land and Recreation Board and Board of Aldermen for several enhancements to the dog parks, including an incline/decline ramp, a paint scheme for the drainage pipe, a “Take a Toy Leave a Toy” bin and signage. The troop sought donations through several fundraisers to help fund the amenities, which were estimated at $2,300. The Girl Scout Troop will maintain the structures for three years and check in monthly to make any necessary repairs.

According to the proposal, several members of Girl Scout Troop 591 frequent the park and love the opportunities it provides to residents and visitors. In the spirit of community, they wanted to assist in making the area comfortable, welcoming and productive.
