Healing Grace News

In This Newsletter
July 2016
Dear <<First Name>>,

“...encourage one another and build each other up,
just as in fact you are doing.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:11

One of the joys of sponsorship is the ability to encourage one another.  As a sponsor, your words, your prayers and your support are a great encouragement to the children.  They know that you are standing alongside of them in every way.  We pray that, as you receive your child's letter this month, that it would be an encouragement to you, as well.

Because every child deserves a chance,

The Healing Grace Team

Three Months

Within the next few weeks, you will be receiving letters from your sponsored children.  These letters are written out of a deep love for you. They want you to know all of their news because they know you are the one who has chosen to care for them and they want you to be proud. We hope these letters give you a small glimpse into the impact you are having on their lives.

One question we often receive from sponsors is, "why does it take three months to receive my child's letter?" We thought we'd give you a look at what and who is involved from beginning to end.

1 week: Material preparation (copying letterhead, preparing lists, and delivering to village staff) is led by 1-2 Communications Coordinators.

3-4 weeks: Letter writing involves every child (currently more than 1,650), 50 village staff members and 6 supervisors.  The staff work one-on-one with the children to write their letters.

1-2 weeks: All letters are returned to the main office where 1-2 Communication Coordinators verify the letters are complete. They then determine which letters need translation, coordinate translators, and distribute the letters and lists to translators.

3-4 weeks: A team of 12-15 translators volunteer their time to translate each letter.  Each translator averages 80 letters.

2 weeks: A team of 3-4 native English speakers confirm spelling, grammar and formatting of translations.

1-2 weeks: Cover letters, envelopes, inserts, updated photos, and letters are prepared for mailing by 1-2 Communication Coordinators.

1 week: Anxiously waiting for mail to arrive.

A lot of time is put into these letters, but it is easily one of our favorite parts of the year.  We laugh, cry, are encouraged, and challenged by what the children write to you.  We can see their love pour out on the paper and are grateful for the opportunity to send them to you.

Stories from the Field

Iskander is in 8th grade.  He was fond of songs and music which do not glorify God. He had a lot of this music and would play it very loudly.  In addition, he was in a relationship with a girl.  The village staff talked with him many times to stop listening this kind of music because it’s harmful for his spiritual life but he refused to obey them. When he attended the conference for teenagers, he received Jesus in his heart and he decided not to continue behaving the way he had been prior.  Now, he makes good choices, takes regular quiet time and attends the church meeting.

Sharin is in 6th grade.  She had poor performance in school. During the first term, she tried to receive tutoring, but there wasn't any room in the class. When she received her midterm exam results, her marks were very low again. She was sad.  The village staff visited her and encouraged her to study hard. She listened to them and studied hard.  When she received her final exam scores, she was surprised to learn that she was 8th in her school. She was very happy.
