PENDLETON POLICE DEPARTMENT UDATE
Currently the Town has several projects in the works that soon will become a reality. Some can be easily seen, while others cannot. As time permits we will make every effort to update our citizens, property owners and business owners of the status of each project.
As most of you are aware, Staff has been diligently working to reestablish the Pendleton Police Department. A great deal of work is taking place to ensure the Department begins active patrol as quickly as possible. Two major items that must be received prior to beginning active patrol are the vehicles and bullet proof vests. Delivery of these two necessities are expected to be due to the Town within the next few weeks. The Chief, along with his two officers, are engaged with setting up the Evidence and Storage area and researching and working through other logistics that the Department must have in place prior to start-up. All Officers have completed qualifications on side arms and patrol rifles and all Mutual Aid Agreements have been approved. The Department's Badge, Patch, Car Design and Logo have been designed and approved as well. The reestablished Pendleton Police Department will soon become a reality.
Presently the Department will be located at Town Hall, 310 Greenville Street. Plans to renovate the area that is occupied by the Department are underway and we anticipate construction to begin sometime early next year.
Once active patrol begins, all calls for service will be required to go through Anderson County Sheriff's Office Dispatch. The non-emergency number to call is 260-4444. Please keep this phone number for future reference. If you call Town Hall to have an Officer dispatched, you will be directed to hang up and call the above number. Remember to ALWAYS call 911 for all police emergencies.
Since Anderson County Sheriff's Officers will be covering the Town when our Officers are off-duty, Chief Doyle Burdette and his Officers will patrol Town for two weeks during the day and two weeks during the night to determine the best schedule for our Officers to be on patrol.
If the necessary items to begin active patrol arrive as scheduled, Chief Burdette could possibly make an announcement at the July Town Council meeting providing additional details as to when the Department may begin active patrol of the Town.
We encourage all citizens, property owners and business owners to ask us questions so you will have the facts as to why certain decisions are made. Town Council meetings are held the first Monday of every month beginning at 7 pm. Each month there is a section on the Agenda that allows Public Comments and Questions. We encourage you to take part in your local government. (please note that if an observed holiday falls on the first Monday, the Council meeting is moved to the next day)
