ASIPI supports Interactive Forum on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in Latin American

From April 17 to 19, it took place in Tequila, Mexico, the First Forum on “Promoting Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Policy in Latin America: The Role of the IPO”, organized by the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property (IMPI) and the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC) of the White House of the United States, with the support of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP) and the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI).

ASIPI - APAPI Roundtable in Asuncion

|
On the occasion of the commemoration of World Intellectual Property Day 2016, on Wednesday, April 27 took place in Asuncion in the auditorium of the Firm Peroni, Sosa, Tellechea, Burt y Narvaja Abogados, the first roundtable of the year organized by the Paraguayan ASIPI group together with the Paraguayan Association of Intellectual Property Agents (APAPI). The topic of discussion was "Intellectual Property in the Social Networks" addressed by Juan Ortiz, Fabrizio Modica and moderated by Raquel Toñánez. The impact of social networks on copyright and trademarks was analyzed, case studies were presented and interesting questions for discussion were raised. There was a significant participation of members of both associations, as well as lawyers in general. Executive Committee of ASIPI was represented by Matías Noetinger, while APAPU was represented by its President, Hugo Mersán.

Roundtable in La Paz on "Action of Cancellation of Registration"

On April 29 took place the Round table, organized by ASIPI and ABPI, sponsored by the firms TERESA SHEPPARD, ORPAN Sociedad Civil, AGUIRRE Bufete de Abogados and Landívar & Landívar, which addressed the topic "Action of Cancellation of Registration".

Mario Leyva has passed away
On March 20 Mr. Mario Gomez Leyva, who was a member of our Association, passed away.
Our condolences to the family of Mr. Leyva Gomez and to the members of the firm Leyva, Montenegro, Trigueros, Lawyers, S.C. of Mexico.

International Seminar: New labeling and packaging regulations: A threat to trademark rights?

The Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), together with the Direction of Foreign Trade and Administration of Trade Treaties (DICOEX) of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Dominican Republic, held on April 28th, an International Seminar covering the issues of the new regulations for labeling and packaging in consumer products, against trademark law.
The formal opening ceremony began with the welcoming remarks of Mr. José Del Castillo Saviñón, Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Dominican Republic. Then Maria del Pilar Troncoso, President of ASIPI, mentioned in her opening remarks that the Seminar focused on raising questions and controversies about how recent regulations for labeling and packaging, can negatively impact the role of brands in the market and in the economic development of countries.

First ASIPI Webinar: a great success

On April 21 we held the first ASIPI webinar which addressed the topic "Securitization of cash flow from the exploitation of intangibles. Intangibles as collateral", by Dr. Gustavo Schötz.

ASIPI present at the meeting of ItechLaw

|
ASIPI was present at the event of the ITechLaw association, which took place in Miami from May 18 to 20, 2016. This time ASIPI was represented by its Secretary Luis Henriquez who held a meeting with the new president of the association Susan Barty, as well as with the other members of its new Board of Directors. The meeting served to strengthen the good relations that for many years both associations have maintained, to discuss future mutual projects and to promote the XIX Work Session and Administrative Council of ASIPI in Buenos Aires.

ASIPI participates in the "Spring Conference" of the IACC

Maria del Pilar Troncoso, President of ASIPI, participated in the Spring Conference of the International Anticounterfeiting Coalition (IACC), which took place from 18 to 20 May 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, Florida.
The conference was held in collaboration with the Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP) of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), under the framework of "Securing the global supply chain from counterfeiting and piracy". They were held 6 sessions with topics of current interest, such as "Development best practices across E-Commerce Platforms to address counterfeiting and piracy"; and "Blocking and seizing domain names and infringing sites".

ASIPI in the INTA 2016 Annual Meeting
|

|
|
The Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), participated in the 138th Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) held from 21 to 25 May in Orlando, Florida.
Prior to the formal opening of the event, ASIPI offered a cocktail where more than 800 attendees, including members and non-members of the Association, enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in the main garden of the Hotel Hilton Orlando. The activity was characterized by an atmosphere of relaxation that allowed attendees to do business and socialize in a multicultural environment.
Similarly, ASIPI was present in the commercial exhibition event. During the conference, ASIPI’s Booth received about 500 visitors who showed great interest in the work of the Administrative Council, which will be held from 4 to 7 December in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
