From the Committee
A fantastic turnout last Saturday at home in near perfect conditions.
The A grade didn't let the crowd down with a commanding 65 point win against Scotch with some outstanding performances across the board.
The B and C grade unfortunately couldn't get the job done with the B's losing to Scotch and the C's only narrowly against a spirited Flinders Park. Plenty of positive signs across these 2 sides though and a few wins this week will be a just reward for effort.
As we officially start the second half of the season and with 4 home games to go (including Nosey Lyon Country Day on the 16th July) we would like to take the opportunity to thank a few volunteers who make our home game experience one of the best going around.
Anna Colley and Jane Hunter have been amazing running the canteen. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the ladies in what can be a pretty frantic environment. Thanks also to those that have helped Anna and Jane. Even a half an hour cameo takes the pressure off.
Going quietly about his business, Michael Milne has does an exceptional job cooking the BBQ over many years. The amount of compliments we get from opposition teams/supporters says it all.
Beaver and Dirty George are often seen managing the bar whilst at the same time still able to give the umpires a bit of advice when the moments right.
Forgs is more often than not the first to arrive at home games and is extremely helpful with setting up for the day.
Last but not least our Club games record holder and part time boundary umpire Steve Brookman has done an incredible job getting together Club memorabilia in the Hargrave Seedsman room. If you haven't been in recently make sure you go in and have a look at our next home game (Gaza on 2nd July).
A huge thanks to all our volunteers without which we simply wouldn't be able to operate.
This week the A and B grade don the new clash guernseys and take on PHOS Camden away. PHOS have been playing some good footy of late and are sitting 5th on the ladder in the A grade so it is bound to be an exciting game.
The C grade are away against Walkerville (1015am start) and are determined to get back to their winning ways.
Thanks for your ongoing support and will see you tomorrow

ST PETERS OC

Best Players: C. Kidman, R. Findlay, C. Wiggins, E. Colley, A. Robey, E. Trenorden
Very few positives could be found following the very disappointing fourth quarter fade-out against Scotch College. In a grade where a complete team effort is required, the B grade was serviced by too few, too often. We were in the game until the final break, with basic skill errors and frequent turnovers from both sides meaning anyone could win. However the floodgates again opened with two quick goals to Scotch, and it became a five goal blowout. Whilst many were patchy contributors only Charlie Kidman could be considered the obvious best player. Charlie did not stop trying from the get go, running himself into the ground. His enthusiasm and competitive spirit is a delight to see. Ed Trenorden had a fantastic first half, Ryan Findlay made the best players for the 5th week in a row, Ed Colley showed good run, while Charlie Wiggins and Alex Robey combined well in various roles. In his first game of B grade, Nick Rowlands could be very proud of his efforts and we look forward to more contributions in the future.
The players - with the exception of the last quarter on Saturday - can be very proud of their efforts against more talented sides. They also continue to train well and socialise and support the club without hesitation. It is also pleasing to see the many first year school leavers enjoying B grade experience. I am delighted to have remarkable off-field support in the form of James Whitehead, George Fowler, and now Jacob Gschwandtner on match days, week in, week out. There is certainly a strong bond between all in difficult times, which again bodes well for future years.
This week the B grade will continue to blood youth, to take the game on against PHOS Camden this week. We are missing the likes of Marwe, Matsoulaidis, Edwards, and Woodard, however this will enable a number of C grades to get a taste of B grade footy.

ROUND 9 REVIEW VS FLINDERS PARK FC
SPOC 7.8.50 FLINDERS PARK FC 8.4.52
An all time thriller. However. Not the result we were looking for..
Although Flinders Park started the season pretty slowly losing four games early in the season they have well made up for that now with 4 wins on the trot. We knew they were quality opposition and were a side on the rise.
The game was tightly played with scores level at quarter time, us down by one behind at half time, up by 2 points at three quarter time and unfortunately down by 2 when it counts.
We were facing a tough challenge this week with a number of players unavailable through exams, honeymoons, holidays and bar mitzvahs. We have now played exactly 60 different players through the #cgradelegendsthis year, not a bad effort after 8 games, thats a lot of legends.
All year we have lived by the philosophy of one soldier down another one in. This has served us well and saturday was another clear example, our selection policy of plucking blokes from unknown black holes continues to serve us well. Tom Barrett strapped on the boots and donned the Paul Seedsman long sleeved guernsey for the first time in a decade and jumped out of the woodwork, involving himself heavily in the game, taking some great leading marks and supplying deep forwards with a lot of scoring opportunities. Bazz is now a favourite for the C grade equivalent of the Norwich Rising Star, well done Tom.
Jordan Bradshaw was the unlucky guy who had to fill the Tom Hyde hole in the ruck. After initially asking if it was a mistake on the team sheet Jordy took it in his stride and was enormous for us. Not enormous in height as we are generally used to but more a presence and hard willed competitor at every contest. Jordy has played a number of great games for us in a row now and is really becoming a vital cog in our team. The word in vogue in footy appears to swingman through the 00's, Jordy is the C grade legends not swingman but everywhereman, he will give his all everywhere on the ground, forward, back, middle, tall, small, he does it all.
Fraser Whitehead another bloke who is putting the strong performances together. Whiteheddie Betts, played a great game up forward and had his hands on the ball every time we went inside 50. He made us look very dangerous and continually gave his all. Fraser's 2 goals were invaluable in a low scoring game.
Tom Hunter who is soon to be an uncle, currently a PAC school teacher has a lot of young people under his tutelage at present, as a team we hope he has told them about his goal of the year in saturdays game enough that we won't have to hear about it in coming weeks/months... It was a great goal, well done Tommy and as always his attack on the ball and the man was leading by example.
Justin Christie-Taylor was pushed down back and played an excellent game, having had the ball on a string and rebounded out of our back line consistently, another strong improver who is looking at home in our ever evolving side.
With the likes of De Pizzol, Milne, Hyde and Pym out we needed a tall keyforward to stand up and Oscar Rogers was our man. Oscar lead well and took numerous vital marks and was a strong focal option every time we looked to push forward, Oscar efforts have seen him rewarded with B grade games of late and it is obvious to note his leadership when he is back in the side, he is becoming a great channel for us to goals.
The old firm of Rat Allen, Bailey, Lyon and Treloar were all outstanding as usual, Bails and Lyonsy had strong GPS numbers which seems to excite them and no one else. Willy lost some weight pre game with a tactical vom that reeked of scotch and coke, which can only be said to have helped his run throughout the day. It must be noted maybe more Powerades on friday nights may prevent him from getting last quarter cramp and shouting at the umpire to help him stretch it out and relieve his pain. Unfortunately Treloar's hammy decided he was playing too well and decided enough was enough and twanged late in the match. Enjoy another month off pal.
Special thankyou to Sam "Patrick Cripps" Auld, Lachie McEwin, Chris Algie, Tom Barrett and Michael Harvey for filling in on late notice. Without blokes that care about the club and are willing to give up part of there weekend, come out of retirements just to help us when we are deep in exams, snow season etc we wouldn't have our overall successes.
The crowd and onlookers were incredible as always, it was ridiculously loud in those frantic few minutes, with the tiniest bit of luck we would've all walked away satisfied.
Thank you also Henry Kelly, the best team manager in the land again, Ed Mcleish, for running messages and providing entertainment on the sidelines and to Brooky for running the boundary.
Well done to all, the best sides bounce back. We will be back.
