Every month we celebrate story with a different theme according to the Leigh Hobbs 'It's Your Story' Calendar. In June we #HearAStorySeeAStoryFeelAStory.
  • Check out our 'Hear a Story, See a Story, Feel a Story' activity ideas, book lists and resources below
  • Download the 2016 calendar here
  • Share the results of your story hunting adventures online with the hashtag #HearAStorySeeAStoryFeelAStory
  1. Borrow an audio book from your school or public library. Borrow the actual book of this story too. Can you read along with the story as it is read?
  2. Lie somewhere different – under a tree, on a hammock, in your local park – and listen to an audio book being read to you. Imagine the places where the story is set, and what the characters look like as well.
  3. Ask someone to read a book to you and use a different voice – a whisper or a loud voice perhaps? Can someone read to you in a foreign language?
  4. Look at all the letters in the word L-A-U-R-E-A-T-E. How many words, with 3 letters or more, can you make from this word? Keep trying until you make at least 10 words. What is the longest word you can make?
  5. Can you read just the dialogue of the Horrible Harriet book – when she is actually speaking herself? Listen to the way she talks…do you think she is really horrible?

Support ACLA and donate before EOFY

With the end of financial year looming now is the perfect time to donate to ACLA and support the Australian Children's Laureate project.

ACLA is a national not-for-profit and independent organisation dedicated to developing a culture of reading in Australia. We believe that reading changes lives! All donations are tax deductible and very much appreciated! Donations can be made here
We're constantly looking to improve the content and resources we produce as part of the Children's Laureate project. If you have any feedback we'd love to hear from you. Contact us at office.acla@gmail.com. Many thanks – the Australian Children's Laureate team.
