"FACES: Portraits From Our City"
The Niagara Falls History Museum is excited to announce its newest temporary exhibition, Faces: Portraits From Our City, opening in the Niagara History Museum on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The images shown in this exhibition are portraits from two collections brought together to highlight this classic genre of portraiture.
The artworks included will move the viewer through a variety of themes and mediums --- from portraits commissioned as statements of power to the highly stylized constructs found in the abstract. The exhibition showcases more than 40 portraits from the historical collections of the Niagara Falls Museums and contemporary collection of the Niagara Falls Art Gallery.
Faces Portraits Exhibition will be featured at the Niagara Falls History Museum, 5810 Ferry Street, from May 14 to November 27, 2016.

The Burning Springs
In 1794, during excavations for the foundations of the Bridgewater Mills, a "spring" of natural gas was discovered which could be harnessed and ignited. The spring attracted many tourists, and was soon turned into Niagara Falls' first tourist attraction, "The Burning Spring," by Thomas Clark and Samuel Street. To learn more about The Burning Springs, follow the link below:

The Insiders
Also on Thursday nights, when you visit the Museum, you might run across one of our new crew of volunteers. These individuals have worked with us on coming up with a new perspective on looking at our history. There will be new people out each week, so make it a habit of stopping by.

Educational Programs
The Museum has released the 2015/16 educational program offerings for teachers. There are a few new programs that fit the Ontario Curriculum as well as Museum and Battlefield tours.
We are also excited to be working with Niagara Falls Transit on offering free bus transportation to elementary school children.
