Dear Lyndale Beloveds,

I write in the midst of a lot…

…our Sabbath summer in which, this week, we danced amidst our wailing in worship on Sunday thanks to Pamela Y. Cook’s leadership. And we sang and prayed for all those fathers and father-figures in our lives.

… our goodbye to Scott and Diane Peterson who are moving to Colorado (Diane will be with us some this summer but Scott won’t be back until their farewell celebration on September 11th).

… the burial of more of the dead in Orlando.

… the Senate’s failure to pass any kind of laws to curb gun violence.

It is a lot for the heart, mind and body to take in. But I am grateful that we are a spiritual community gathered in love and justice. I am grateful we return again and again to God and one another. Thank you for being God’s body in my life and one of the ways God’s love is manifest in the world.

This week, we are invited to gather for a special worship service for Pride Sunday. We will meet in the North Sanctuary at 9:30 am. We will sing and pray, consider the Sabbath practice of embodiment and bless the Pride marchers and parade-goers as they witness to Lyndale UCC being an Open and Affirming congregation for over 25 years.

Gratefully,

Rebecca

Join us for Twin Cities Pride! Please join the Minnesota Conference Open and Affirming Ministry Team and participate in the Ashley Rukes Pride Parade at Twin Cities Pride.  Bring your church banner and wear t-shirts representing your congregation - if you have them!  You can visit our event page to let us know you will be there or just show up.  On Sunday, June 26th, at 10:45 we will have a brief prayer and song worship and the parade starts at 11 a.m.  We will be number 95 in the lineup.  Please send Kim Graff an email or text (651-283-0962) if you have any questions.
Pastor Ashley is away with her family now through June 26th. For pastoral care support, please connect with Rev. Rebecca Voelkel (612-703-7907) or Rev. Rhonda (763-229-4459) from Salem. Rev. Rebecca is also available to connect you to a BeFriender.
Save the Date: September 23-24th: We cannot build a religious movement for justice that is populated with broken bodies, traumatized bodies, exhausted bodies. We must find a way to heal justice, build resiliency and practice new habits… personally, communally and as an earth-body. The Center for Sustainable Justice will host its first conference this fall featuring skills-building, deep reflection, celebration and ethical spectacle. Presenters include: Lisa Anderson from the Sojourner Truth Healing Circle through Auburn Seminary; Steve Newcom from Kaleo Center for Faith, Justice and Social Transformation; Erin Pratt from Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light; Lena Katherine Gardner from Black Lives Matter Minneapolis and more to come.
Spread hospitality at SpringHouse! The hosts can either bring something healthy, a sweet treat, a cold beverage and something gluten free. Plan to serve approximately 40 - 50 people. You are all so terrific at signing up to host coffee hour and we need to serve from Sunday, July 10th through  September 25th.  Salem will host on August 7th and September 4th. Please let me know if you are available to host. Needing three people for each Sunday. A sign-up sheet is located in the back of the sanctuary or email me at nhomdrom@gmail.com or call 612-423-1573.
We are greeting for the month of July.  Please sign-up at the back table of our sanctuary.  Spreading hospitality to SpringHouse Sunday morning attenders.  Sunday greeters are needed * July 3 * July 10 *July 17 * July 24 and * July 31 from 10:10 til 10:30 am.  Email: Nancy at nhomdrom@gmail.com.
We've formed a Dream Team! Through Ashley's connections with the Center for Progressive Renewal, we've been granted free access to Pastor Molly Baskette's Church Renewal course. A team, now called the "Dream Team," from Lyndale will take this course this summer and start dreaming together our strategy for living into our vision together in our next chapter. The team includes: Claire Klein, Stacey Gassman, Allan Henden, Fred Smith, Pamela Cook, Sam Goodrich, Eila Savela, Karn Anderson and Ashley. We had our first class today and look forward to a summer of fun!
SpringHouse Meditation Experiment: Join us in an Experiment in Meditation and Contemplation, both in Solitude and as a SpringHouse Community:  1) Read (as often as you can) Richard Rohr's Daily reflection (found here), and spend some time in quiet contemplation reflecting on some ways that his ideas for that day  expand your faith journey (using one/few approaches to meditation that seem to work for you). 2) Toward the end of each week (maybe after Rohr's Saturday Summary) write something (if you wish to do so) and share one thought, question, surprise or insight with the rest of us in a "Reply All" reflection.  Then,  3) If possible, join the rest of us for lunch after your respective worship services on the last Sunday of the month. Bring a sandwich, get a Subway or an extra snack or “fast”.  Enjoy a dialogue as we share our experiences and some insights gained from Richard's thoughts and our own experiences in contemplative experiences.
Your bliss + the community's needs = ministry. What do you love to do? What brings you joy? Would you be willing to do that thing to empower or enhance the life of another member of this community and our broader community? This past Sunday we explored our spiritual gifts of the Spirit and filled out this form. If you missed it, we would love for you to fill it out now! Shouldn't take longer than 5-10 minutes.
Solidarity with MN Muslims: From neighborhood hate crimes to campaign rhetoric, we see negativity directed against Muslims.  We have an opportunity to demonstrate a caring spirit towards  Muslim Minnesotans!  Put a lawn sign in your yard between June 6  – July 5 to wish a Blessed Ramadan to our Muslim neighbors. We have joined with other congregations and the Minnesota Council of Churches to lead the way and offer this sign of good will.  In fact, we are  one of the congregations leading the way!  We will have the signs ready for you to take home and put in your yard Sunday.
Send Ethan to Denver to Sing & Heal: Can you help Ethan get Denver to continue his healing journey? Read a bit about what's going on and contribute if you can. "As many may be aware I am going through a difficult time over the last few months. I haven't worked since mid February and will probably go out on disability from SSA (I served for 8 years). In my healing I am finding that chorus has been quite healing and grounding for me. I am asking for your assistance in traveling to and participating in a large LGBT chorus festival this July in Denver. Although I have been given some financial assistance since I have no income right now I cannot afford the rest of what it will cost... " READ MORE and contribute!
Enjoy a Befriender! Our Lyndale team of lay pastoral care providers is now ready to be a listening presence in your life. Please let Pastor Ashley know if you would like to connect with a BeFriender. Email her here.
