OC United: Celebrating 1 Year!

It has been a little over a year since the launch of OC United. As we look back, we are humbled and amazed at what God has accomplished for His kingdom. The following are a few highlights:
  • God gave us the perfect office location off Commonwealth in Fullerton providing an inviting and convenient location for ministry to the community. Three local church plants also use our offices on a consistent basis after hours.
  • Our website has served us well but we have outgrown it. The latest version will be released in July.
Unite for Cities
  • Love Fullerton has spread to six surrounding cities, mobilizing over 6500 volunteers, over 100 churches, city governments, schools and local businesses.
  • We'll unite again next year on April 29, 2017 and expand to Riverside, Orange and Los Alamitos.
  • We are empowering Neighborhood Connectors to help facilitate four seasonal gatherings to build community and relationships with neighbors on their block...

Search Team Update

EvFree family,
I’m happy to report that you have overwhelmingly affirmed Amy Kling and Marianne Werschke as members of our Pulpit Committee. Thank you for your strong support. Amy and Marianne will join our elected elders on the committee. This is one of many important steps we’re taking to identify our next senior leader. Two others include:
  • We are in the process of selecting a church staffing firm to work with and hope to choose a firm very soon.
  • We have selected our Search Committee. They will do most of the hands-on work that culminates in submitting a short list of potential candidates to the Pulpit Committee.
You submitted the names of many wonderful people to serve on the Search Committee. As we did during the elder nomination process, we prayed over this list. The following people have agreed to serve on this very important team...

She Had Me At “Doughnut”

I was running a business and working over 60 hours a week. Tired and both physically and mentally exhausted, I didn’t have much left for the weekend. Serving at church wasn’t even a possibility in my mind. Not only did I not have it in me, but I also just plain didn’t want to.

My husband had set up a meeting with someone to see where he could serve at EvFree and wanted to know if I wanted to join him. My response was not surprising, “My work is my ministry. I’m just too busy now. I’ll serve at church when life slows down.”

The following Sunday morning after the service he met with Bambi, who heads up HOST ministries. Since I had to wait for him I figured I’d join the meeting as a spectator. I gave Bambi my “I already have too much on my plate so please don’t ask me to serve” speech and she graciously nodded her head and understood my reasoning.

Not realizing it, I had a “stereotype” of what serving in church was...

New Assistant Executive Pastor!

Our Assistant Executive Pastor role is a fantastic place to get trained in how to be an Executive Pastor. In two, three or four years, we provide both the theological framework and the hands-on experience that is needed. The recent hiring of Jon Hurst by The Grove Community Church in Riverside is a great example of how this program is designed to work.

The exciting news is that a new Assistant Executive Pastor will be joining our staff in late July. This person brings years of public service in a myriad of leadership roles and is already ordained by the Free Church...
